one month passes...
I am getting today:
Fortean Times
The Wire

jdubz (ex machina), Wednesday, 26 October 2005 21:16 (nineteen years ago)

has anyone actually read the nation? i keep hearing ads for a free month, but how much is too much leftie propaganda?

tehresa (tehresa), Thursday, 27 October 2005 05:08 (nineteen years ago)

i used to get the nation and mother jones.

and i never really read either. but i was still in college. the nation is worth it if you get it super cheap. its pinko propaganda, but nothing you couldn't sift through.

i've been thinking i should get a harper's subscription.

let me know how yr wire subscription goes jdubz. i used to subscribe but always got it 2 weeks into the month. and 3 times in that year it never arrived. (they were real nice about extending my subscription to make up for it)

bb (bbrz), Thursday, 27 October 2005 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

i used to get the wire... i've wanted to resub, but it's pricey. it's weird how perceptions change... i used to think the wire was for total dork snob academic music. and maybe it still is, but for some reason i find most of the music i'm into is in that magazine nowadays.

what are other readable zines/mags these days? ??

msp (mspa), Thursday, 27 October 2005 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

Signal to Noise! Its like the wire but cheap and with more copy.

jdubz (ex machina), Thursday, 27 October 2005 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

I just canceled my subs. to the Nation. Once in a while they have an interesting article (usually by William Greider) but it got tiresome reading the same angle and rants week after week. The book reviews are pretty good, though. You can read most of it online anyway.

I totally want to subscribe to the Wire but $100/yr is out of control! Unless there is some cheaper way of subscribing that I don't know about....guys?

The New Yorker and Scientific American are my only subscriptions right now.

Keith C (lync0), Thursday, 27 October 2005 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

no, the wire is just xpnsv, no matter what...

i like signal to noise, but i always end up only reading like 1/2. though i may just subscribe.

bb (bbrz), Thursday, 27 October 2005 13:53 (nineteen years ago)

i've always been a fan of skyscraper and still check it out on occasion. i usually thumb through believer and wired and a couple others. if i've got time to kill, i like to check the back of spin and rolling stone and see what's on the doppler radar.

adbusters is eyecatching at times, but it does nothing but piss me off usually. it just motivates discontent. and granted, some discontent is good, but i just can't spend 24-7 being pissed off about THE MAN TM.

Also, fortean times is $10 an issue and about the size of the NY times magazine. Fuck that!

I like it.

F.R.I.E.N.D. (nordicskilla), Friday, 28 October 2005 18:26 (nineteen years ago)

I love it. But you have to be "into art" or you have to "enjoy looking at a magazine that is 75% ads."
