early Jethro Tull is really SO good though, frankly.

Are you sure the record label didn't have them confused with Toe Fat?

The only time I saw Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus, I was flipping on acid. When "A Quick One While He's Away" came on, I was peaking. It was un-fucking-believable. If you've never watched Moon doing "A Quick One While He's Away" on acid on Rock & Roll Circus, well ... I highly recommend it.

I didn't notice Iommi at all though. Tull sounded ok but sort of "there". like Ten Years After at Woodstock or something. I think Ten Years After at Woodstock was way lame. But first four or five Decca records rip...

I actually think phallocentric discourse is really cool. I like facts.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 9 September 2005 05:29 (twenty years ago)

I'll play Jeanne something from This Was and see if she likes it.

oh I was only having fun, Jethro Tull aren't really that good. They are probably about as good as Coldplay or something. both bands do have moments. I've never even heard This Was! I only have Stand through Aqualung. or wait, is it Benefit through Agualing .. whatever the 3,4,5 albums are. I only bought em all in dollar bins anway.

There are good songs on there. My beloved Screaming Trees covered "A New Day Yesterday", which turned me on to that track. and of course Iron Maiden covered "Cross-Eyed Mary", which was the first version of that tune I ever heard. a Piece Of Mind b-side. I was a Piece Of Mind freak.

tull seem pretty ok to me.

One time my college radio buddy and I had to interview Jad Fair, and we totally had no frickin clue what to ask this guy. so I told my buddy: ask him if the Mosquito album was named in tribute to the first Jehtro Tull album. but of course, the Mosquito album was actually called TIME WAS (so, more of a Wishbone Ash trib), not THIS WAS. the look of incredulity on Jad's face was priceless....

I'll bet you'd dig This Was. They were one U.K. heavy blues rock band who actually came up w/ some creative jams. They don't really sound all that much like Beefheart, but there aren't that many other touchstones for what they were doing, I don't think. Very unpretentious band, actually (the early band, anyway). They seem like they would have been fun to see live.

Stormy, if you do have Benefit, listen to the song "Inside" and tell me that does not fucking sound like Can!

truth be told, I'm probably more of a fan of the spin-off bands. Blodwyn Pig and Wild Turkey in tha house!! Tim I will listen to that track .. I'll dust off Benefit after a few more beers here..
