KISS THE BOTTLE
It gets loneliest at night
Down at the liquor store
Beneath the neon sky
Our moonlight
Six a.m. the floor comes alive with lice
The pan's dried up so tight
With hardened beans
We're hungry
So I lean on you sometimes
Just to see you're still there
Your feet can't take the weight of one
Much less two
We hit concrete
How were we born into this mess?
I know I painted you a prettier picture, baby
But we were run out on a rail
Fell from the wagon to the night train
I kissed the bottle
I should've been kissing you
You wake up to an empty night
With tears for two
Cigarettes they fill the gaps
In our empty days
In our broken teeth
We're jonesing
Say mister, can you spare a dime?
Some change could make a change
Could buy some time
Some freedom
Or an ear to hear my story
It's all I've got
My fiction beats the hell out of my truth
A palm upturned burnt blue
Don't call it sunburn
You've been shaking on the job
Just one drink ahead of your past
There's a white light coming up
You draw the blinds hoping it'll pass
I kissed the bottle
I should've been kissin you
You wake up to an empty night
With tears for two

CHESTERFIELD KING
We stood in your room and laughed out loud.
Suddenly the laughter died and we were caught in an eye to eye.

We sat on the floor and did we sit close. I could smell your thoughts and thought. do you want to touch a lot like me? too scared to say a thing. I left your house and kicked myself. I put those
Ings on a shelf to die. I guess I’m not a gambling type but think of what the two of us had lost.

Had lost.

I needed some time to think it out. 7-eleven parking lot. a toothless woman turned and stopped. I gave her a dime and a chesterfield. she leaned down and kissed my cheek. I was scared but it fel
Et.

Felt so sweet.

She asked me if I had a name. I told her I was glued up on some chick. we sat and smoked against the wall.
Drank a beer, felt the chill of fall.

Of fall.

I took my car and drove it down the hill by your house. I drove so fast. the wind it couldn’t cool me down, so I turned it around and came back up. you were waiting on your step, steam showing o
Ur breath and water in your eyes. we pulled each other into one, parkas clinging on the lawn and kissed right there.

Said all my chicks they smoke these things and handed you a chesterfield king. held your hand and watched tv and traced the little lines along your palm.

Your palm.

I took my car and drove it down the hill by your house.
I drove so fast.
The wind it couldn’t cool me down, so I turned it around
And came back up.
You were waiting on your step, steam showing off your breath
And water in your eyes.
We pulled each other into one, parkas
Clinging on the lawn and kissed right there.

Right there.

SEA FOAM GREEN
A '63, 10,000 miles. What was I thinking?
I drove myself insane. No small getaway
Asleep with both hands on the wheel
White knuckle weekend
Chewing ephedrine
Going to an unnamed end
Unending...
We met in rain, you asked me in
Seemed like a good sign
Now I need a guillotine
To get you off my mind
I brush my teeth until they break
Until I start bleeding
So when I smile I'll know
I'm almost good enough for you
And would you...
Follow me to the end of the dare
Raise your eyes, return the stare
Become your words
Your words so becoming
On any Sunday I'll be there
I tried to drink you off my mind
I just got waisted
It only made the pain that much more acute
But cute
Isn't stong enough a word
Unintentionally gorgeous
An accidental charm
A graceful drinking arm
Disarming...

propaghandi listener attacks others for jawbreaker -- puzzling.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 12 August 2004 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

through hard work and love i cured hanoi jane from her addiction, though in the process i suffered much hardship seeing bands like Hepcat and the Toasters. The Jack Cole does not *SKANK*

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 12 August 2004 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

PROPAGHANDI RULZ

Red Panda Sanskrit (ex machina), Friday, 13 August 2004 00:56 (twenty-one years ago)

1. Propaghandi is from Canada
2. Propaghandi is on Fat Wreck Chords
3. "Ideally, the band would have loved to skirt the entire capitalist process of selling and marketing music, but made compromises in order to get its pro-gay, pro-feminist, pro-civil liberties, anti-fascism message out." = boring
4. The music is generic.
5. Thus, Jawbreaker is better than Propaghandi.

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 13 August 2004 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

But have Jawbreaker ever written a song about trying to fuck your best friend in the ass when you were twelve? I think not.

I'm kind of divided on the issue. Propagandhi are irritatingly PC/smarmy, but Jawbreaker are pretty mediocre also. I USED TO REALLY LOVE THAT SONG "I LOVE YOU SO MUCH IT'S KILLING US BOTH" AND ALSO "FOR ESME" THOUGH.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Friday, 13 August 2004 04:23 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the difference between Jawbreaker and Jawbox?

I have no idea, but those are two of the worst band names EVER. just brutal.

Monetizing Eyeballs (diamond), Friday, 13 August 2004 04:25 (twenty-one years ago)

jawbox has teh female bass player

AaronHz (AaronHz), Friday, 13 August 2004 04:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I thought this was a thread about Jawbox. I just can't read properly anymore, it seems. I went to Allmusic to look up Jawbreaker, then decided to look up Bolt Thrower, and proceeded to misread that, thinking they were described as "one of Britain's most consistent and endearing death metal bands."

Bolt Thrower vs Jawbreaker FITE

daria g (daria g), Friday, 13 August 2004 04:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Weren't BOLT THROWER all about WARHAMMER?

Ian c=====8 (orion), Friday, 13 August 2004 05:10 (twenty-one years ago)

choosing between propaghandi and jawbreaker is like choosing between Walter Koenig and George Takai.

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 13 August 2004 06:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Propaghandi never wrote songs about being a rich white kid desperately in love!

Red Panda Sanskrit (ex machina), Friday, 13 August 2004 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

They did, but they called it "This is satire" (or something along those lines. I like Propagandhi but GODDAMN those liner notes to "How to Clean Everything" are horrid. At least the "Less Talk More Rock" ones are informational.

dean? (deangulberry), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Jawbox's first 7" is good, though.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I should sell my jawbox cds since I don't listen to dem!

Red Panda Sanskrit (ex machina), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I sold mine ages ago.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Jawbox people: pretty nice though. J. was v. nice the few times I met them. Altho the drummer they had at the end said I must be from Louisville because I was wearing a chain wallet. Okay, well fuck you too, guy.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

PROPAGHANDI ARE FUCKING AWFUL.

Red Panda Sanskrit (ex machina), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

NO.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 13 August 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I still think I kinda like some Jawbreaker songs. That cover of "Something Must Break" was decent.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Friday, 13 August 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

jawbox, rather.
