There are many cheap Broadway cast albums to be had (Brian prices them so).

teh funnie:

In the loo at one WFMU record fair, I regrettably walked into a dealer snorting lines of his own dandruff off Bernard Parmegiani's Violostries.

dan bunnybrain (dan bunnybrain), Sunday, 6 November 2005 04:59 (twenty years ago)

Jim O' Rourke overheard saturday at the record fair, "where are the noise girls?"

Too many dealers and people, too expensive, too overwhelming. I bought Laura Branigan's Self Control 12" for 2 dollars, and the Rema-Rema EP for 2 much money. I gave Crazy Rhythms mix cds to Alan Lich at Jim Thirwell. Wanted to spend more time digging through 12" crates under tables but people were nagging me too leave. WFMU DJ Dan Bodah brought his son in a carriage, who was routinely shoved out of the way, in case there were any rare records behind him. Jokes on the shovers because he was lying on top of a 100$ sun-ra record.

I'm sure sunday afternoon will be more pleasant, and with the deals and all, but in the timeless words of sexydancer...I have enough records.

or something.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 6 November 2005 16:44 (twenty years ago)

I saw Carlos D and he looked scary and gross as usual...Jim O'Rourke's lps were crazy expensive no... or I am just out of the loop on the inflation of silkscreened covers I guess.
- RSG too lazy to log Ian out

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Sunday, 6 November 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

I didn't even get over to his table, looked like lots of old Zorn box sets and such. John Allen was next to him and he had some great stuff. I said, "how is this Meredith Monk record?" and he said "I don't remember" and I said, "that good?". Followed by a rim-shot.

I love how they set up the tables, like I don't know if Mike at WFMU thinks about it or if people request it, but clearly people are grouped together, and there's always that Wayne + Kate/Twisted Village next to Jim O and/or Thurston, then John Allen series of tables. And Chuck Warner always gets his prime spot on or around the middle column.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 6 November 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

Do L.A. noizers ever go to the Pasadena record swaps? I have never been. We have record shows down here once every three months that are pretty good.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 6 November 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

I WENT...DIDNT BUY ANYTHING.

YAY!!!

ddb (ddb), Sunday, 6 November 2005 21:36 (twenty years ago)

CHAKI,
PURPLE SHIRT WAS THERE, BUT THE BOBBLE HEADS WERE $15....OUCH!!!

TOO BROKE!
SORRY

ddb (ddb), Sunday, 6 November 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

Dan is right re: overwhelming & expensive

Was looking forward to the FMU dollar bins this year (I found a bunch of things last year) but came up with nothing. Robin E's table was amazing but a lot of sharp-elbows and nerds fighting two-deep.

I got noise board favorite Fleetwood Mac s/t for $1.

Keith C (lync0), Sunday, 6 November 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

that's about what you should have paid for it, but it's real worth is priceless. < / cheese >

jaxon (jaxon), Sunday, 6 November 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

A LOT OF BAD STUFF THIS YEAR....IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE.

M1K3 G00DST31N was selling a copy of DECEIT for $40.

ddb (ddb), Sunday, 6 November 2005 22:02 (twenty years ago)

i came away with a few good dollar scores yesterday, but yeah, the stuff there was already pretty picked over and most of the interesting records were retardedly overpriced.

bird-person-person (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 6 November 2005 23:04 (twenty years ago)

the only thing i have ever gotten at the record fair has been an old issue of select wuth brett anderson on the cover and some old jewish guy calling me the next day wanting to go out for a lobster dinner.

Mendoza Lineman (Carey), Monday, 7 November 2005 00:05 (twenty years ago)

SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF FUN, GUYS!

so, what exactly WERE people selling for a dollar that no one would go near with a ten foot pole? i'll bet i coulda found something good, by gum.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 7 November 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

this record:

discus (dr g), Monday, 7 November 2005 00:43 (twenty years ago)

Robin E's table was amazing but a lot of sharp-elbows and nerds fighting two-deep.

Ugh, seriously! I went at about 10:15, and got lots of stuff, went back at around 4, and sooo crowded! (And still bought more stuff).

I can always find something in dollar bins but I just don't have the energy anymore.

Up For a Bit With the Pastels

one of my favorite albums! (don't laugh, noise dudes.)

and hooray for patience and prudence.

bird-person-person (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 7 November 2005 01:28 (twenty years ago)

I got Joao Gilberto s/t from her on CD, $7. Probably would have grabbed more but it was like a UN food drop both times I passed by.

Keith C (lync0), Monday, 7 November 2005 01:30 (twenty years ago)

my scores are on the ilm thread.

bird-person-person (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 7 November 2005 01:31 (twenty years ago)

"A 'bagel,' friends, is an edible object shaped like a donut, considerably harder, and ususally happily consumed buttered or embellished with cream cheese and 'lox' (smoked salmon)."

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Monday, 7 November 2005 04:05 (twenty years ago)

Deceit will be back in print eventually. Hold ups I think related to These losing their store, but someone will do it.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 7 November 2005 04:30 (twenty years ago)

robin did good fuckin' business and oddly enough so did i.
Thanks all (speshully you Rosemary)

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 7 November 2005 06:00 (twenty years ago)

oh I forgot: I got interviewed by a lady from Resonance FM

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Monday, 7 November 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

I WENT...DIDNT BUY ANYTHING.
YAY!!!

ARE YOU ME?

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 November 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

i think i also had the first lp on piano priced at $40.

dan, are you looking for that rema rema record btw? i've probably got a dupe i can give to you.

my finds included a copy of the screams for tina 12" (for $2), a faith healers 12" (for fifty cents), the usual assortment of odd paul major 7"'s (some stuff on the creep label out of greece, ana hausen, a really cheap copy of poupee de cire, poupee de son), and a copy of the "smashed blocked" 45 on white whale.

michael goodstein (chokingoncufflinks), Monday, 7 November 2005 21:35 (twenty years ago)

OH FUCK HERE COME THE MP3 BLOGGERS :(

Jdubz (ex machina), Monday, 7 November 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

noizebored officially over now.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 7 November 2005 21:49 (twenty years ago)

no thanks, I bought a copy this weekend. My one "well I guess it was worth coming" purchase.

What is the first LP on piano? Grey Scale?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 7 November 2005 23:11 (twenty years ago)

Club Midway bouncers tossed S0n1c b00m out of the club for smoking jazz cigarettes. He had to have an 0th3r mus1c employee go in to retrieve his Synthi.

69, Sunday, 4 November 2007 22:52 (eighteen years ago)

Sorry I missed the hijinx this weekend, I've been seeing 40-year old bands play instead! Sadly Mary and I got stuck with the overproduced, overly glossy & guitar-riff-y Strawberry Alarm Clock for a closer last night.

Laurel, Sunday, 4 November 2007 23:00 (eighteen years ago)

Am starting to think that a number of bands would be better off with the same technological constraints faced in their ORIGINAL work.

Laurel, Sunday, 4 November 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

plsmith and z, great to meet you.

always remember:
GRUNGE 2.0 IS THE NEW POSTPUNK
NEW AGE IS THE NEW KRAUTROCK

sanskrit, Monday, 5 November 2007 00:09 (eighteen years ago)

i thought grunge 2.0 was the new ELECTROCLASH

it was totally fun hanging out with all you dudes. p & z, come back to visit more often!

bell_labs, Monday, 5 November 2007 00:26 (eighteen years ago)

69, Monday, 5 November 2007 02:53 (eighteen years ago)

oh well, it was a long shot anyway. i did pick this comp up on saturday however so the weekend wasn't a total bust. i'm gonna wind up dropping some serious coin on these numero comps. the belize one is next in line.

chicago kevin, Monday, 5 November 2007 03:13 (eighteen years ago)

As I stood behind the LP table as the fair was being packed up Sunday at 7, some poor soul did a little presentation for me by shuffling some crayon & construction paper drawings he had made in tribute to the record fair. BETCHA DON'T GET THAT AT ACADEMY EVERYDAY
