classic for: employing jon williams, also giving jon williams an easier way to harass me during his work day.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 10 November 2005 21:42 (twenty years ago)

classic for coordinating hoochies who want to hook up, brodowns, funny links.

Jdubz (ex machina), Thursday, 10 November 2005 21:52 (twenty years ago)

dud for my boss making me install it so she can keep me on a short leash

gold buck teef (mookie wilson), Thursday, 10 November 2005 21:56 (twenty years ago)

classic

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 10 November 2005 21:58 (twenty years ago)

its great at work when you want to coordinate lunch, pasting code, quick questions etc.

We use it all the time so we don't interrupt music.

Jdubz (ex machina), Thursday, 10 November 2005 21:59 (twenty years ago)

i despise instant messaging with every cell of my being

john p. irrelevant (electricsound), Thursday, 10 November 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

I don't use it that often. Especially since 90% of the contacts I have are from when I first got my account (AOL in high school). And the only person that actually IMs me is anthony, and he's creepy.

giboyeux (skowly), Thursday, 10 November 2005 22:28 (twenty years ago)

Dud for the same reason as mookie. It's especially dud when I'm rocking out with my headphones on and that BLOOP sound blasts me out of nowhere and give me the fear when I'm suddenly reminded of all of the shit I'm behind on.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Thursday, 10 November 2005 22:41 (twenty years ago)

TURN OFF SOUNDS OR I KILL YOU.

Yup, also use it so I don't have to get out of my seat and walk across the room to ask a simple question.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 10 November 2005 22:50 (twenty years ago)

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 10 November 2005 22:50 (twenty years ago)

Jdubz (ex machina), Thursday, 10 November 2005 23:06 (twenty years ago)

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Thursday, 10 November 2005 23:08 (twenty years ago)

walter kranz (walterkranz), Thursday, 10 November 2005 23:10 (twenty years ago)

slice and dice, super-mix so nice, so bad .. you can't dispute the price

it's at the intersection of finance and technology. other than that I will be all gygax-mysteriouso.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 10 November 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

everyone knows gygax works in a sweatshop making jeans.

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Thursday, 10 November 2005 23:15 (twenty years ago)

I didn't know that!

giboyeux (skowly), Thursday, 10 November 2005 23:19 (twenty years ago)

worst kept secret ever

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 10 November 2005 23:22 (twenty years ago)

walter kranz (walterkranz), Thursday, 10 November 2005 23:28 (twenty years ago)

yeah good point on the BLOOP interrupting my music.. but what's even worse are the little noises when someone I barely want to speak to logs on. and what's worse, some asshat figured out how to make his logon sound go BLOOP so i think someones msging me. And then theres the fucker who for Halloween turned it into Vincent Price laughing.

fuck IMing at work when someone is nine feet away

gold buck teef (mookie wilson), Friday, 11 November 2005 00:02 (twenty years ago)

classic idea
dud execution

JUJUBEANCOBIAN (dr g), Friday, 11 November 2005 00:05 (twenty years ago)

gmail is instant enough!

petesmith (plsmith), Friday, 11 November 2005 02:16 (twenty years ago)

which instant messenger program is the least annoying?

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 17 November 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

gaim(linux+windows), adium(os x), trillian(windoze)

Jdubz (ex machina), Thursday, 17 November 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

thanks. gaim = seems OK. no ads.

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 17 November 2005 16:51 (twenty years ago)

good for sending people songs while chatting, reminds me of back in high school when I used to hold the telephone up to the speaker (or my headphones) and play songs for girls. OK, I still do that.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 17 November 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

Allyzay must fight Zolton herself. (allyzay), Thursday, 17 November 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

aim for the bros, yahoo mesenger (duh) for the work.

the best is when you're in a small room and you're IM-ing the dude across the table from you talking shit about the people right next to you.

jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 17 November 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

nobody IMs me anymore

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Thursday, 17 November 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

trillian i like. it's nice as long as there's not this, "reply immediately" expectation. i can't have it interrupting me like a phone call does. it's nice to just throw shit out there, read a response when/if it comes back... respond when i can.

im > phone in that regard. phone drives me nuts because i have to drop my thought and that's not always convenient when in the middle of thinking through code etc. (that's assuming i'm actually working instead of all the ILNONWORK.)

msp (mspa), Thursday, 17 November 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

i've been experimenting with iChat. I don't have a mic so I plugged my headphones into my mic jack and had a conversation. Forget VoIP when iChat lets you do the same for free, right?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 17 November 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

oh, does ichat let you dial a phone #? or do they have to have ichat too?
m.

msp (mspa), Thursday, 17 November 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

no, they have to have iChat also.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 17 November 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

xpost

ha..dan i can't even get her to sign the hell up for aim, much less use it or cut me off.

bb (bbrz), Thursday, 17 November 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

(btw...rvng sent her a CD, did they send 2?)

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 17 November 2005 20:09 (twenty years ago)

(dunno...things are so messy now...i never get the mail..she picks it up and i get anything untill ages later minus anything she wants...this is both our faults...if i go see her dj tonight ill ask...otherwise ill email...thnks!)
