HAWKWIND: ROCKIST?

She asked if she could dance on stage; Nik told her she'd have to remove her clothes first. Stacia promptly stripped, and whenever Hawkwind played around her home town of Exeter, she'd be there for an encore. Soon, Stacia was appearing at most Hawkwind shows, and had been accepted into the band. And though such terminology seemed at odds with Hawkwind's philosophies - "accepted into the band" is such a rockist term! - as 1971 progressed, Hawkwind's own attitudes were changing.

the cover of space ritual wouldn't have been 1/10th as good if the stacia portrait had clothes on, admit it.

more bands should have naked women.

i saw the frogs once and some chick got up onstage and took her shirt off. that was the best part. frogs were totally assholes though.

bob log iii's boob scotch maneuver seems to be a crowd pleaser.

that Space Daze book was pretty bad as I recall

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 18 November 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I read it years ago and just picked it up again recently. The writing isn't great but it covers some good stuff. I thought if I flipped through it again I might notice some new bands to check out.

As I recall he talks about Edgar Broughton Band a ton! He has a great thing describing what it was like to watch them perform "Out Demons Out", right? now that I think about it he turned me onto Skin Alley too. I guess my problem wasn't maybe so much with the writing but with his weird taxonomy...

Yes actually I only got into Edgar Broughton Band recently which is one of the reasons I want to re-read the book. I'm wondering what else I might have overlooked.

re: 'space daze', was looking at this just last night, good reference...noise board mind-meld yet again

Good list. I've never heard of Khan, Skin Alley or Melodic Energy Commission and I still can't find Mighty Baby. I've never heard any good Man albums either. More stuff to investigate.
