Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Monday, 19 December 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

someone forgot costes

terry lennox. (gareth), Monday, 19 December 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

OK now it woeks. This has got to be a piss-take, right?

It would rox0r if there was a "mothers against battle metal" site, though - "I came home from work, and my two sons were dressed in chainmail tabards! they were building a trebuchet in the back garden! I asked them what the hell they were doing and they told me
they were going to Crush your enemies, see them driven before them, and hear the lamentations of their women. That very night I burned all their bolt thrower and skyclad CDs" etc etc etc

(otoh I wouldn't want any kid of mine getting into whitehouse!)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 19 December 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

yeah... methinks costes pretty much actually IS to be avoided.

the rest of those bands on her list are merely loud.

well, okay, whitehouse has his near fascism moments right? (somebody will probably disagree, and that's cool. i'm no whitehouse expert.) but costes is more like, "this may or may not be feces we're throwing at you. deal the conceptual ramifications of that while we play satan samples."

again, it's shock... mostly... but a little less on the harmless fun rock show side and more on the gg allin wannabe, genuine nihilism, really fuckin disrespectful to live, total downer bullshit side.

if i haven't said it, perhaps this reveals just how square i am. pretty much all the bands on her list seem pretty not scary tho.

anybody actually seen costes? is it hype?
m.

msp (mspa), Monday, 19 December 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Whitehouse's lyrics IIRC (my old flatmate used to be big into them) are mainly extreme BDSM/ultra-mysogynism. Nazi-noise would be, I dunno, thee gray wolves or something like that. They used to send us flyers and promo shit at the record store. We never bought any of their stuff b/c it was totally over the fucking edge. Death in June were pretty heavy into uh ambiguous imagery, shall we say, but they weren't really noise (again, IIRC, it's been a few years since I heard any of this shit) iirc the guy from DiJ claimed to be not a fascist, or perhaps an "aesthetic fascist" or something like that.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 19 December 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

anybody actually seen costes? is it hype?

Yea, its pretty much like you describe, but ultimately not very fufilling...

GET EQUIPPED WITH BUBBLE LEAD (ex machina), Monday, 19 December 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

In college I used to listen to this Sutcliffe Jugend CD on Freek, I bought everything on Freek, and I'd read the tracklisting to people because it's pretty funny.

Metal Device / I Never Met A Woman Who Didn't Deserve / With This Cock / Death Mask / The Best Room / Born Victim / The Killing Of Heather / New Year's Day / / / Whore's Death / Campaign / Male Supremacy / PHL / Torture V / King Ian

Even better was Bodychoke's Five Prostitutes. More of a "heavy" rock record then "noise", but the songtitles were hilarious. Can't find them though.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 19 December 2005 20:36 (twenty years ago)

oh, hear it is...both guys in Sutcliffe Jugend were in Bodychoke:

Five Prostitutes (CD/Freek)
[FRR010]
Tracks: From Hell / The Delivery Man / Whore / Hole / I Can't Wait / Stain / Skinflick / Spermburner / Head In A Jar / Any Way You Want It / Anal / Cripple / How Much Can You Take / The Red Sea

The Red Sea is an awesome 13 minute psychedelic rock/noise thing.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 19 December 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

I DJed a Costes show and he was very polite and concerned about giving the audience the best. He cleaned up afterward. I found difficult to fathom doing that style of performance several nights in a row.

detoxyDancer (sexyDancer), Monday, 19 December 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

He played a house show here, I've never seen a crowd move as quickly away from a performer as they did from Costes and his "co-stars."
There's nothing like the smell of the venue after a Costes show.

Tripmaker (SDWitzm), Monday, 19 December 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

Yea, the smell amazes me esp considering it is just Frenchy funk + pudding.

GET EQUIPPED WITH BUBBLE LEAD (ex machina), Monday, 19 December 2005 21:08 (twenty years ago)

the pee is real

detoxyDancer (sexyDancer), Monday, 19 December 2005 21:08 (twenty years ago)

where's gygax with his extreme elvis story?

m.

msp (mspa), Monday, 19 December 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

Now that I think of it, though the pee was real, they pissed directly into the girl's mouth, so there was no real mess.

detoxyDancer (sexyDancer), Monday, 19 December 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

And they'd been doing it every night for weeks.
It was pretty funky.

Tripmaker (SDWitzm), Monday, 19 December 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

Costes, putting the C back in Hepatitus

detoxyDancer (sexyDancer), Monday, 19 December 2005 22:11 (twenty years ago)
