cuz I am wondering how to spend my xmas bonus.

I was thinking about getting a few things, but first I would like to confirm whether or not some english guy is going to release an album with some shitty beats and some lazy lispy talking on it? can a NU-Noize-boarder confirm? i am counting on the nu-noize contingent to let me know about the musical innovations of the Strrets

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 7 January 2006 07:25 (twenty years ago)

from slate:

Malcolm Gladwell, author, Blink -
2005 was the year I discovered the Streets. Oh my. For the second time in 30 years, the British take an African-American musical form and wonderfully reinvent it.

oh my

j blount (papa la bas), Saturday, 7 January 2006 07:29 (twenty years ago)

holy mackerel

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 7 January 2006 07:33 (twenty years ago)

well that says it all, i guess

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 7 January 2006 07:33 (twenty years ago)

seriously, I was just being drillish... but that does take the cake. fucking christ..

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 7 January 2006 07:34 (twenty years ago)

The first being Simply Red, right?

Zwan (miccio), Saturday, 7 January 2006 07:34 (twenty years ago)

ah well, time to flip the Pink Fairies lp.

so jb, what do you think of the Marcus Vick thing ... I'm torn..

dude did deserve some punishment, but OFF-THE-TEAM ... hmm, short leash, eh?

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 7 January 2006 07:36 (twenty years ago)

hey diamond i've been meaning to ask you - why do you hate the bears? is it just from being a lions fan or is there something more specific?

j blount (papa la bas), Saturday, 7 January 2006 07:36 (twenty years ago)

haha .. TOTALLY from being a Lions fan

old loyalties die hard, man

I am going to be 100% frank -- I have only cried maybe 6 times in my adult life (ok 20 if you count the times I was really drunk) ---- and two of those were Walter and Derrick Thomas ... I dunno ... the Walter thing just really killed me, man .. he was such a hero to me even as I was trained to HATE the Bears growing up.. I really have no problem if someone rates Walter over Barry Sanders .. cuz in my heart of hearts I usually agree!

uh so yeah, bottom line, justa NFC Norris thing..

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 7 January 2006 07:42 (twenty years ago)

stormy, don't you think he's kind of funny at least? and if the beats are indeed shitty aren't they supposed to be because that's part of the humor? i don't know - i've only heard a few trax.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Saturday, 7 January 2006 07:43 (twenty years ago)

ah I dunno I think it sucks, Tim. I mean, it's ok for what it is ... it's just that it's the kind of thing that alt-weekly dorks get for free in the mail and care *very deeply* about. meanwhile, there is a *massive* world of music around them that doesn't even rate. It's just the whole P&J thing in a nutshell. I just like posting my snarky comments here, where I can interact with fellow rekkerd collektors, away from the 700 post ILM threads that, frankly, I really can not read, even if I wanted to. and that's not a cooler-than-thou comment but more of a statement of fact; I simply can't read those 200 post threads, too busy

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 7 January 2006 07:49 (twenty years ago)

oh yeah, to answer: streets shit is h0rrible

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 7 January 2006 07:50 (twenty years ago)

haha a couple of xmas's ago one of the big family discussions at dinner was marcus vick and them 15 yr olds with me providing a vehement defense. what i think about the marcus vick thing is the falcons maybe can and maybe should draft him and maybe they can trade schaub to one of the 20 or so qb desperate teams. was it just for the bowl thing pretty much? (i'm not even sure what happened in the bowl - he stepped on a dude or something? how's this a huge deal?). i'm so peeved about vick backlash right now (vince young love has kicked it into overdrive somehow with either 'o i don't know if i'd draft him - he might be another vick' or 'he'll be like vick if vick were any good' be tossed around; the other day on espn radio they were seriously having a discussion of how the falcons got burnt in that draft, with 'l(d)t for vick is an easy move' which ok whatever i don't agree but l(d)t is the best rb in the league so it's not insane to say like the other bizarrely not contested point 'and drew bress has proved to be a much MUCH better than vick' which is FUCKING INSANE. anyhow my main concerns with marcus vick are purely performance based, nothing off the field that i've heard about has freaked me out (it's not like he's lawrence phillips or anything), and the kicking off the team i'm guessing is somewhat school president coming down, beamer laying down the law, etc. my guess is if the hokies were in the orange bowl this year, if vick had stepped on a penn state player or whatever he's suspended for a game or two maybe next year or until they play west virginia or miami or whatever their first big game is.

j blount (papa la bas), Saturday, 7 January 2006 07:53 (twenty years ago)

o god yeah even just seeing footage of the press conference on espn classic is enough to get me bawling.

j blount (papa la bas), Saturday, 7 January 2006 07:56 (twenty years ago)

haha and as proof of my 'i got no problem with potheads in the nfl' stance i for some reason own a rashaan salaam bears jersey.

j blount (papa la bas), Saturday, 7 January 2006 07:57 (twenty years ago)

I think ... looking at the footage of the Marcus "stomping" .. that it was totally bush league .. and that is was totally something that a Matt Leinart or any other white hope could have gotten away with; but frankly it's the priors that did Marcus in with his community .. so I really can't protest too vehemently. It's really all the other shit that led to it. he was on a short leash; like the kid but DAMN that was stoopid

Yeah VInce Young slurpage is officially OUT-OF-CONTROL ---- I honestly don't see an NFL QB there. An AMAZING athlete, yes, but ... I dunno man... I've just seen this movie before .. No question, that was perhaps the *best* college football game ever! I don't deny! but don't anoint Young the next Unitas or even McNabb just yet...

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 7 January 2006 08:03 (twenty years ago)

yeah tommie frazier's somewhere (canada?) going 'ok WTF' right now

j blount (papa la bas), Saturday, 7 January 2006 08:05 (twenty years ago)

I mean Young is awesome, no question about it (very disappointed that my lions, despite the woeful 5-12 record, now completely have no chance of drafting *any* of the coveted Rose Bowl participants..), I just wonder about the guy, just like I wonder about Leinart! I mean, this NFL is crazy these days, the offenses are totally different, it's totally down to specific skills ... the game demands totally accurate pocket passers, or complete phenoms like Mike Vick, no middle ground...

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 7 January 2006 08:07 (twenty years ago)

one thing that did crack me up is how the day after espn IMMEDIATELY started up with '2005 longhorns: the greatest college football team ever?'.

j blount (papa la bas), Saturday, 7 January 2006 08:10 (twenty years ago)

hahaha .. totally ..

hey man, that has to be one of the greatest title games tho .. I think we can all agree .. even all of the fuck-ups (goin for it on 4th down [on both sides!!], etc just contributed to that sense of a classic, crazy, seat-of-the-pants barn-burner of a game

WOAH NELLY!

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 7 January 2006 08:15 (twenty years ago)

yeah all the bcs bowls this year were awesome

j blount (papa la bas), Saturday, 7 January 2006 08:30 (twenty years ago)
