I take these simple pills every day and after 6 or whatever months am supposed to have thyroid levels checked. I often forget and call dr. who gives refill anyway, which I figure is fine because when I DO go, my levels haven't changed for like 5 years. So they ran out today and I've been busy and I call dr. and he's like "come get blood test tomorrow" and I'm like "my manager is gone for the day so I can't not come in tomorrow, can I get a weeks worth of pills and I'll come in later this week or whenever" and he says "I can't do anything for you without a blood test, so you need to do that goodbye" and hangs up on me. You're not supposed to notice when you miss a day or two but I swear I feel way weird, so I didn't want to wait a week days for pills. But he's been rude before and I was like fuck that hanging up on me. I went to the pharmacist and she gave me a few days worth and now I'm gonna find a new doctor, which I should've ages ago anyway. I may have to go a few days without pills, which will feel like getting sick and exhausted and tired and even weak but I'd do that as opposed to go back to his office.
I already have one tip, but am fielding others. I just prefer to hear from an actual person that so-and-so was nice and/or professional rather then whatever some healthcare website says.
Drew...I though you asked for Cherish 8? We just signed the contracts so now it's official. They're checking to see what they have in multi-track format for transfering, will be in touch.
so yeah, Acute Records is proud to reissue Ike Yard's 2 releases, the LP on Factory and the EP on Crepuscule, as well as some unreleased stuff, including a track recorded live when they opened up for New Order's first show in America, at the Ukranian National Home (on 2nd ave behind the Sly Fox, see concert film Taras Shevanko)

re: iChat, I've just been too busy. I was in mexico for a week, came back dj'd Dazzle Ships and Lit, had a 2 year anniversary, had to go to a funeral, helped John Allen out on a CD, trying just to catch up on emails for me is a mess, working 40/hrs on the mercedes and arbys ads, some other stuff, I'm just not a very disciplined or motivated person and I stretch myself way too thin. Just celebrated valentines day. Girlfriend bought me the Tom Snyder New Wave DVD and Lipstick Traces. I'm going to go celebrate my life be treating myself to the watching of a DVD, Herzog's Invincible, instead of doing any actual work.
I DO really need to do some serious work on the Acute website and my big plans to turn nyhappenings into a revolutionary website so I can get bought out for 25 million dollars.
but yeah, when I'm at my computer I don't always log onto ichat because I know I'll just get sucked into a long discussion about this or that. I know I owe you some music though cutty. Oh that's the other thing, fucking mp3 blogs. I can't take it anymore. There's so much shit being shared and discussed out there it's driving me nuts. I try to keep up with stuff and on top of that I subscribe to mp3 podcasts so like every day it's like "hey, here's 20 more songs to listen to!" And youtube. Jesus.

Hahaha. It's more than just the holistic stuff, really, my doctor is honestly a little crazy: she can't keep a receptionist, for one thing, and she's always taking calls for, like, insurance coverage while in the exam room with me. Then there's the way she champions her Baptist church attendance and raises her hands, palms up, over her head while she describes how it feels to cast all her cares upon God. And at one visit she said to me "you could lose a little weight, why don't you cut the dairy?" and then she took blood samples and when she got my calcium results a while later, said "these numbers could be higher -- do you eat enough dairy?" So you see, I take salt with me.
Also, the last time I saw her it was because one of my eyes was swollen and weepy and I suspected pink eye, but she was more interested in de-clogging my sinuses and asking about my bowel movements. I was like, "I know colds are viral. I promise to go home and sweat it out with ginger tea. And eat fiber, yes I PROMISE. Can we PLEASE move on to the eye now, because I can't touch anyone as long as I have a contagious eye infection!"

i've got a buncha boxes of records to sell. a lot of rock, country, some blues, a small box of jazz, box of folk/psych folk/ssw, box of international stuff, some soul/funk lps, box of new age/avant garde. idk. i've been pricing a buncha records each day this week. sometimes i wonder if i'm pricing some things too high but then i shrug. if someone doesn't wanna pay $xx then i'll just keep it. or take an offer. lots of $5 records which will all be 5 for $20.

alright, as i threatened to, i'm here to ask about marfa, tx. if you had to list a couple of essential spots to hit (food, watering holes, shops, galleries, whatever), what comes to mind first? we're going to be there for a couple of days in october. i'm hoping it's still warm enough to at least dip our feet in the spring-fed pool at the state park. also, what about alpine, tx, up the road? i've heard it's interesting as well.
hope y'all had a blast there.

In the meantime, I'll be playing music on WNYU tonight at 9pm. It's a "psychedelic" show and I'll be stretching that. May play some 60s stuff but thought it might be more fun to play 60s-esque post-punk.

dan can u tell me about the 70's disco label emergency records? i've been slowly accumulating their catalog on soulseek but a lot of it isn't turning up, do they get a lot of props? is vinyl sought-after or rare/$$$? what's your favourite single? most stuff i've heard so far is pretty fantastic and i've always found italo to be super hit or miss idk
― flopson, Sunday, 4 August 2013 19:10 (eleven years ago) link
More of an 80s label. I think they were one of the New York labels that specialized in licensing/importing euro stuff. There's a whole narrative there about the american gatekeepers like Emergency and Importe/12 that defined "euro-disco" for americans (and later I'd say the same about the chicago Hot Mix DJs).
Kano's I'm Ready/Holly Dolly, Electra's Feels Good were big and influential on house and techno bigtime. (Sharivari = Holly Dolly).
American club stuff like MIchelle Wallace or Chemise She Can't Love You are classic, the latter a floor-filler I used to always hear Danny Wang play when I started DJing.
Most of the records aren't worth much because they're pretty common, certainly in NY at least.
But Emergency switched focus to freestyle, which they helped pioneer with Shannon's Let the Music Play, C.O.D. In the Bottle etc.
I didn't realize they put out a pressing of IMS's Dancing Therapy. That's not so easy to find, at least I still don't have a copy!
Electric Mind's Pick Me Up(Can We Go)/Zwei is a classic, I play that a lot. Early evening warm-up track.
I used to love playing Bo Boss's Tequila, but it's a bit silly. Actually listening again now...it's pretty damn hot.
I see they kept with the euro stuff later on. I'm a big big fan of Taffy's Midnight Radio, which, chronologically, is about as late as I'd dare get with italo. It has that later mid 80s italo sound, more digital, not as lo-fi or spacey, but is super catchy.
― dan selzer, Sunday, 4 August 2013 19:30 (eleven years ago) link
Then there's electro/freestyle stuff like Nolan Thomas, which I've never particularly dug...you can't walk down a street in NYC with tripping over a dozen copies of Yo Little Brother.
― dan selzer, Sunday, 4 August 2013 19:33 (eleven years ago) link
but because I was an electro-funk fan before I discovered italo-disco, this is always the first record that comes to mind when I think of Emergency...

― dan selzer, Sunday, 4 August 2013 19:36 (eleven years ago) link
Just noticed Emergency released Capricorn and Easy Going, both Claudio Simonetti related (Goblin) and was looking for Easy Going's Fear and realized that came out on Importe/12. Interestingly Importe/12 also released most of the Man Parrish stuff, though he was involved in COD. Looking at Importe/12's catalog it's like a little version of Emergency. A bunch of Man Parrish electro/hi-nrg stuff amidst euro licenses like Tantra, Rama, Easy Going. And Elton Motello? There's a ubiquitous compilation Called Prime Cuts 1 The Double Dance Album which is everywhere and features Sunbelt's "Spin It" and one of my all time faves, Show Me Yours by Corruption. One of those weird songs that i don't think was ever released outside of that compilation and a disconet compilation. And NOBODY ever plays it but it's totally killer. Really raw and analog, with awesome female vox.

There were a few stores. There was Crazy Rhythms and then there was Cafe Soundz (an Industrial Café!) and TwinTone(TwoTone?) which was next door and they merged. There was also a more indie-rock store who's name I can't remember which was someone from Venus records, and later on long after I'd left NJ another vintage store w/ record section.
