the italian butcher/specialty shop with the good sausages is like six or seven blocks further away than the grocery store, and slightly more expensive.

Don't listen to them, get the cheapest damn sausage you can get, it's not like the ingredients are better if you go specialty. "My pig cartiledge is free range" O RLY?

(I'm being totally serious, I virtually never bother getting high qual butcher shop stuff when I'm making sausage and no one has complained yet, or told the difference when I've gone fancy schmancy on the world, so I figure it's all a rip)

the italian sausages at my old supermarket had a disgusting amnt of paprika added; it was gnarly.

xpost: i dunno if it's about ingredients so much as freshness? why i usually don't get fish from the supermarket, but from a specialty store.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 19:36 (nineteen years ago)

its about what other kindsa a stuff they put in there and freshness. my guy will make up stuff on the spot if i dont ask him to put it in casing....and typically a butcher is cheaper or about the same as the grocery...

Yeah but haven't you seen those Johnsonville ads about Mrs. Freshy Freshington? Did that not sell you on teh freshness??

im in complete favor of buying only dry goods from grocery stores.

if only to cut back on packaging and shipping waste

bb (bbrz), Tuesday, 21 February 2006 20:08 (nineteen years ago)

I like packaging and shipping waste, it's comforting.
