pssst - badass revolutionary art! (plsmith), Thursday, 2 March 2006 15:29 (twenty years ago)

the best show on television right now is "Ham on the Street"

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Thursday, 2 March 2006 15:30 (twenty years ago)

I bought Precious Roy bread crumb swimming trunks last spring. The first time I went to the beach the birds flocked to me. My life hasn’t been the same since.

Folks, what this nice British guy is saying is chicks love the trunks!

ham'ron (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 2 March 2006 15:36 (twenty years ago)

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Thursday, 2 March 2006 15:37 (twenty years ago)

ham'ron (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 2 March 2006 15:38 (twenty years ago)

Beavis & Butthead is the greatest show ever on television. I never really gave Sifl + Olly a chance..

lil' flipper (eman), Thursday, 2 March 2006 17:04 (twenty years ago)

daria is only kinda good.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Thursday, 2 March 2006 17:08 (twenty years ago)

the ep where B&B "start" a "band" and call it metallica makes me roffle just thinking 'bout it

"damn, we're smooth"

wangdangsweetpentangle (teenagequiet), Thursday, 2 March 2006 18:05 (twenty years ago)

otm!

sometimes watching vh1 classic feels like watching b&b but without them actually commenting in it to make it bearable.

sifl and olly were kinda amusing, though. i liked that one bit where they're interviewing the planet mars.

I like Beavis and Butthead but I don't think Office Space is anything special. King of the Hill as well.

R.I.P. Concrete Octopus ]-`: (ex machina), Thursday, 2 March 2006 21:19 (twenty years ago)

i love king of the hill.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 2 March 2006 22:16 (twenty years ago)

None of these things are good.

Adam Rice Lacucaracha (nordicskilla), Thursday, 2 March 2006 22:16 (twenty years ago)

Beavis and Butthead were only good when they were reviewing videos.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 2 March 2006 22:21 (twenty years ago)

I like Tool videos, they're hilarious!

Adam Rice Lacucaracha (nordicskilla), Thursday, 2 March 2006 22:21 (twenty years ago)

Ever see the Six Finger Satellite clip on there?

R.I.P. Concrete Octopus ]-`: (ex machina), Thursday, 2 March 2006 22:23 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I saw that.. wasn't it "Parlour Games"? I don't remember them saying too much about it though.

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 2 March 2006 22:29 (twenty years ago)

Did Mike Judge pick the musical content? I wonder if Tim Ellison knows him, I believe they were classmates.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 2 March 2006 22:42 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

Wow! This is really difficult.. I would put BOTH shows into my 10 favorites of all time list, but not sure which would place higher..

The idea that people don't understand sifl and olly is kind of sad and disheartening. The humor must be hit or miss. Anyone who likes goofy quotes like "spoooooooon!" are more likely to enjoy this show. It wasn't just the humor, but the relationships and the way characters interacted with one another, which let me fall in love with a bunch of sock puppets. Sometimes the best humor on that show was subtle. For instance, you don't get many straight jokes - it's more like amusing situations. If you take a step back from your television, you realize you are laughing at socks. I think the problem with some people is that they never took a step forward. (it probably was much easier for me because I was a teenager when the show first started). But even now in my late 20s I can still get in the sifl-and-olly-zone.

So maybe people had to be there during their hay-day to understand why sifl and olly were class act. And maybe you have to be somewhat young at heart to really appreciate them. I vaguely remember one episode where sifl and olly we're discussing how to fill an entire room with marbles and water(?) and then they turn to the camera and say something like "oh, we got to go to an interview". Those bits right before they went to interviews were the zaniest. The dialog on that show was so off the wall sometimes but always relatable to funny stoner dudes. It was actually quite amazing how sifl and olly had these highly developed personalities for sock puppets (you could tell the characters apart just by reading their dialog).

way to sell it

que sera seroff (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 19 April 2009 19:28 (seventeen years ago)

to answer my own question, if i had to pick a desert island disc i'd probably take my sifl + olly DVDs over my beavis & butthead DVDs
