sometimes watching vh1 classic feels like watching b&b but without them actually commenting in it to make it bearable.
sifl and olly were kinda amusing, though. i liked that one bit where they're interviewing the planet mars.

The idea that people don't understand sifl and olly is kind of sad and disheartening. The humor must be hit or miss. Anyone who likes goofy quotes like "spoooooooon!" are more likely to enjoy this show. It wasn't just the humor, but the relationships and the way characters interacted with one another, which let me fall in love with a bunch of sock puppets. Sometimes the best humor on that show was subtle. For instance, you don't get many straight jokes - it's more like amusing situations. If you take a step back from your television, you realize you are laughing at socks. I think the problem with some people is that they never took a step forward. (it probably was much easier for me because I was a teenager when the show first started). But even now in my late 20s I can still get in the sifl-and-olly-zone.
So maybe people had to be there during their hay-day to understand why sifl and olly were class act. And maybe you have to be somewhat young at heart to really appreciate them. I vaguely remember one episode where sifl and olly we're discussing how to fill an entire room with marbles and water(?) and then they turn to the camera and say something like "oh, we got to go to an interview". Those bits right before they went to interviews were the zaniest. The dialog on that show was so off the wall sometimes but always relatable to funny stoner dudes. It was actually quite amazing how sifl and olly had these highly developed personalities for sock puppets (you could tell the characters apart just by reading their dialog).

to answer my own question, if i had to pick a desert island disc i'd probably take my sifl + olly DVDs over my beavis & butthead DVDs
