WHAT BANDS DO YOU LIKE MORE THAN BLACK SABBATH?

I find this is an interesting point of comparison.

The Dead C
Can
the Stones
Neil Young

but that's about it!

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:44 (nineteen years ago)

Flying Burrito Brothers & The Byrds, also.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:47 (nineteen years ago)

maybe none! i always put them at number one. since i was 12. (i'm still kinda 12)

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:52 (nineteen years ago)

are there any bands, for you, that are ON PAR with BlackSabbath?

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:53 (nineteen years ago)

I'd have to go beyond rock to think of people that effect me like Black Sabbath does/have. Charles Mingus? Eric Dolphy?

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:58 (nineteen years ago)

one of the teachers at my hs, raghu, his favorite bands/musicians were sabbath & mingus. he was heavy. he plays saxamaphones on one olneyville sound system record.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Sunday, 5 March 2006 02:59 (nineteen years ago)

opus avantra
can
cluster
faust
neu!
pierrot lunaire

um fucking everything

killy (baby lenin pin), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:00 (nineteen years ago)

all my other favorite rock bands seem so piddly in comparison. joy division? i mean, come on. Paul Revere & The Raiders? Please. then again i have really gay favorite bands. swans maybe. they are on par power-wise. and i love swans a ton. can is a good choice though. there is a lot to love about can.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:00 (nineteen years ago)

not much. they've always been in top 10 or 20 since highschool

team jaxon (jaxon), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:16 (nineteen years ago)

you know, i never listen to sabbath. but, back in hs i saw them twice! hmmm. maybe i should start listening again.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:28 (nineteen years ago)

my dad told me today that his cousin wayne turned him off to black sabbath b/c he made him listen to them on headphones when they were younger. now his cousin owns a pizza shop and i don't think they've spoken since they were teens.

killy (baby lenin pin), Sunday, 5 March 2006 03:34 (nineteen years ago)

too many to list. I like Sabbath riffs and many songs, but I don't really like Ozzy. Maybe I have to turn in my rock card now, but I don't care. His voice just isn't something I want to hear very much

YEAH RIGHT WHEN I SAW MUSHROOM HEAD I WAS BORN I WAS...

killy (baby lenin pin), Sunday, 5 March 2006 05:58 (nineteen years ago)

i mean like sabbath has the catchy factor in that frat boys or rednecks would be like 'wooo sabbath yeah!' and you'd never catch one of them saying that about can

tehresa (tehresa), Sunday, 5 March 2006 05:58 (nineteen years ago)

DOES THIS MAKE SABBATH "BETTER" THEN? IN YOUR EYES? BECAUSE FRAT BOYS CAN DIG IT?

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Sunday, 5 March 2006 05:59 (nineteen years ago)

very little is better than "in your eyes"

tehresa (tehresa), Sunday, 5 March 2006 06:08 (nineteen years ago)

he's so gentle

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Sunday, 5 March 2006 06:08 (nineteen years ago)

he is probably playing genesis as he softly fucks that...thing

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Sunday, 5 March 2006 06:08 (nineteen years ago)

tehresa, genesis is terrible. phil collins is terrible. his voice, ugh. his hair.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Sunday, 5 March 2006 06:09 (nineteen years ago)

hehe i once went to a peter gabriel documentary at the little that his daughter made and afterwards there was q and a and all people could say was IS GENESIS GONNA HAVE A REUNION OMG!?

tehresa (tehresa), Sunday, 5 March 2006 06:10 (nineteen years ago)

the phil collins thing is more sentimental... my dad used to listen to him in the 80s when we had our first cd player.

MAX BRODY, ULTIMATE ROADIE (ddb), Sunday, 5 March 2006 16:26 (nineteen years ago)

I don't like any bands *more* than I like Sabbath. Some bands are on the same level, though.

Ian, you should really check out the Sabbath cover band from NJ, Sabbra Cadabra, when they play in the city. I guarantee you will be floored by them.

Keith C (lync0), Sunday, 5 March 2006 16:47 (nineteen years ago)

Do they have any upcoming shows planned? I am soooo there.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Sunday, 5 March 2006 16:49 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, they almost always play the last Saturday of the month at Continental (not the greatest place to see them, but it's that or go to jerz). So this month it's 3/25. I'm probably going to hit this one coming up, haven't seen them in a few years and all the Sabbath talk on this board has got me jonesing. You won't be disappointed.

http://www.sabbracadabra.com/

Keith C (lync0), Sunday, 5 March 2006 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

psyched!!!

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Sunday, 5 March 2006 17:08 (nineteen years ago)

Right on. I'll try to stop talking them up, but I think the main reason they are so effective is that they play pretty much the same equipment that the band used on the recordings. The guitar player is playing a tuned down SG through an Orange amp (if I remember correctly), so when he hits those power chords it's uncanny how they sound exactly like the record. Band is tight as hell, too. It's pretty much the closest you can possibly get to seeing them "back in the day." They play tons of "album cuts" too, not just the obvious tunes...ok, I'll stop now.

Keith C (lync0), Sunday, 5 March 2006 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

i should YSI the amazing asbury park 75 bootleg i have.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Sunday, 5 March 2006 17:34 (nineteen years ago)

yes! think I have "hole in the sky" off that if it's the same thing I'm thinking of.

HEY ASSHOLES, HAWKWIND?

OH SHIT

continues the continuation of the continuous continuity (haitch), Sunday, 5 March 2006 22:52 (nineteen years ago)

i like sabb more than hawkwind.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Sunday, 5 March 2006 22:58 (nineteen years ago)

hawkwind sucks after lemmy left.

Jack Cole (jackcole), Sunday, 5 March 2006 23:31 (nineteen years ago)

Despite that a fact that I totally looove teh Sabs and they've been a part of my DNA ever since I ordered a tape of We Sold Our Soul For Rock And Roll from columbia music house when I was 12 years old ... I probably still like Zep even more, in the grand scheme of things. I mean, I have like 20 Zeppelin boots, no joke. I don't have any Sabbath boots. I've never even owned a copy of Live At Last! I do own an original UK Vertigo of the 1st LP, and a Master Of Reality WITH THE POSTER though!!!
