what do u listen to if u are feelin slightly sad but want to push yourself over the edge to feeling extremely depressed? probably it is all nostalgia-related and not a quality inherent in the music. but. i am curious.

A lot of slower, melancholy jazz pieces do it for me..sound and nostalgia-related stuff, yeah. Goodbye Pork Pie Hat is a good example.

I hope you're not consuming that gin out of a nice glass. True despair comes only in the form of a mason jar.

Goodbye Pork Pie Hat - LOVE this song. one of the only songs i learned to play on trumpet before my friend took it back from me

team jaxon (jaxon), Monday, 6 March 2006 06:57 (nineteen years ago)

great tune. McLaughlin does a nice version on "My Goals Beyond".

it's so awesome how great the big jazz standards are when you hear them ... I was at the jam session tonite and the kids did "Giant Steps", "Impressions", "In A Mellow Tone" ... all wuz right w/ the universe

Stormy Davis (diamond), Monday, 6 March 2006 07:04 (nineteen years ago)

"My Goals Beyond" is a great record. well that one spiritual side. love the shit outta that thing (i think another track i learned to play, but on bass). i've never really listened to the solo guitar side.

team jaxon (jaxon), Monday, 6 March 2006 07:14 (nineteen years ago)

another sad mellow jazz standard i love the shit out of is Django. almost every version i've heard is badical.

woman was outta town this weekend. i almost killed myself i drank and partied so much.

team jaxon (jaxon), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 19:41 (nineteen years ago)

I nearly burst into tears on the subway yesterday -- what WAS I listening to? Ah, right: Stars. "Calendar Girl" totally did me in. Most of Set Yourself on Fire reduces me to a blubbering idiot.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 19:41 (nineteen years ago)

last time Sarah was out of town I got really high and watched Sarah Silverman movie. I also played Winning Eleven 8 until I wanted to puke.

I suppose I should have actually left the house or something.

I just put this on at work. I don't THINK I'm crying....maybe inside?

gbx (skowly), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 19:59 (nineteen years ago)

i usually cry when my little brother plays "it feels good to be a gangsta"

killy (baby lenin pin), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 20:16 (nineteen years ago)

Dunno, Jib. When Stars are bad, I hear ennui -- when they're good, it's beautiful terrible sadness & resignation.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 8 March 2006 20:22 (nineteen years ago)

one year passes...

sad times these days :(

gershy, Monday, 11 June 2007 01:39 (eighteen years ago)

I seriously have not listened to music by myself at home for two weeks plus now...too emotionally draining. But maybe I should just plunge back in, and at some point I'll reach the sadness equivalent of when Eric Cartman "blew a funny fuse".
