Can you ask him to get back together with Takahashi and Hosono? His solo music isn't v. good :(

Also: "Pure Jam": WAHT?

Does Mr. Sakamoto feel like CAPCOM'S video games were heavily influenced by his sensibilities?

ask him when we can expect a reissue of 'esperanto' and ask him as many questions about the work method behind that album as possible -- concepts behind it, his thoughts behind sampling as it played into his concept of 'global music' etc.

and if you need a copy of 'esperanto' drop me a line

hey allyzay, your request is granted:

though I guess if you have to keep your questions YMO-centric, you could ask him about YMO's sense of humor -- obviously there's an extreme parody of western preconceptions of the east on 'Tighten Up' and 'Firecracker'? who were they making fun of?

please please please ask him what the idea behind the 'Snakeman Show' sketches were on 'Xinfinity Multiplies' -- what were we meant to take home from the lessons of Mr Ohira

Martin Denny!

I just pulled out the first YMO album this past Saturday in fact. such a pleasure.

If you run out of YMO questions ask him about his lost classic 80s "guest star" pop/fusion album Neo Geo and maybe suggest he do something similar inna 21st century style.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 13 April 2006 13:03 (twenty years ago)

yeah, sketch show not much more than a pension plan, but it still makes me sorta happy to see all of them up there

there were a couple of good songs on sketch show's 'loophole' but I really had listen a couple of times to find them

i have answers to most of your questions!

also: his favorite jams are neu!, kraftwerk ('especially when they had long hair and were called organisation'), can and faust. he started listening to xenakis when he was 11 years old and stockhausen when he was around 13. i asked him about his cooking skills and he says he's not so good at it. he has a deep appreciation for tea, though, and rocks the tea ceremonies. he wore black mirrored shades the entire time i talked with him (two hours!) that made him look like he was from the future. he was shocked and psyched when i told him that there was an EYE remix of 'cosmic surfing' cuz he's never heard it! one of us should send it to him.

Did he mention any capcom stuff by name? I'm sure he appreciates the video game music people digging on him. I played RYDEEN the other night and someone told me it sounded like CONTRA.

I missed this, I would have asked him what he thinks of Carsten Nicolai's eating habits.

one year passes...

can anyone tell me about hosono's video game music credits? he worked for namco right? there was a link on a different thread but it is dead now. did sakamoto produce any game music himself?
