best commision noize brd recumbent tricycle or folding/collapsible touring cycle?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 20 April 2006 12:06 (twenty years ago)

Recumbents are fun! But bad in traffic, cos they make you short, and hard to take on trains. But folding bikes always look like toys. What do you prfer, Pash?

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 20 April 2006 12:18 (twenty years ago)

pash, as a big human league fan did you ever dabble with the 'oakey' hairstyle?

lil' merzbow wow (haitch), Thursday, 20 April 2006 12:24 (twenty years ago)

how do you find the time to run a business AND moderate an internet message board?

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 20 April 2006 12:27 (twenty years ago)

I had a challenge "hurricane", a 2-wheel recumbent in, it was great & as fast as fuck, but storing the thing was a hassle so I sold it. Best 2 are the Brompton and the Birdy. The Brompton is really tough, the birdy is better over long distances & can carry a full set of touring bags. There's some good pieces in the Dahon range (yeah I know, this is all stuff I stock in my shop, but I only stock things I like), I'm looking at getting this thing in called the "airframe" which is a fast road bike which can pack down into a suitcase. Bike Friday is excellent, but very expensive over here.

w/r/t Oakey hairstlye, no! There was a kid at school who had it, and he looked great. I was tempted, but I was always more into the David Sylvian wedge, but I got into hawkwind and then I never cut my hair again.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 20 April 2006 12:38 (twenty years ago)

moderating the board doesn't take that much time or mental effort, Cutty! It's just deleting spam most of the time.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 20 April 2006 12:53 (twenty years ago)

noize board should commission official noize bikes from Brooklyn's own.

gbx (skowly), Thursday, 20 April 2006 13:03 (twenty years ago)

Ev, the amazingness would be lost on me; as long as the FREAKIN CHAIN STAYS ON, I'm happy. Okay, shit, ask Pash...

How DID yr screen name come about?

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 20 April 2006 13:10 (twenty years ago)

PASH,
THREADED OR NON-THREADED HEADSETS?

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 20 April 2006 13:57 (twenty years ago)

How DID yr screen name come about?

I used to post under my real name (see bike shop above), then n phay, but then ilx started turning up in google searches, and my parents (old & very straight laced) got online, so I figured it was time to get an anon username. There was this shit "humorous" spoof chatroom thing that used to run in "the guardian", where one of the participants was called "pashmina" so I picked that b/c a/it's totally anonymous and b/if you type "pashmina" into google, all you get is scarves, nothing to do with me, har.

ddb:

Non-threaded! They look really clunky compared to old Campagnolo or Shimano 600ex/ax/dura ace, but they are so much easier to set up.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 20 April 2006 15:33 (twenty years ago)

AGREED!

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 20 April 2006 15:42 (twenty years ago)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 20 April 2006 16:08 (twenty years ago)

Actually fuck, no, ARP:

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 20 April 2006 16:10 (twenty years ago)

Pash, Bill Bruford or Guy Evans

The Oberheim in that pic is the same model as the one Gary Young has at his studio (ie, the one that's all over the early pave singles and Slanted & Enchanted).

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Thursday, 20 April 2006 17:32 (twenty years ago)

At the beginning of last year it would have been Bruford, easily. Now that I've seen VdGG though, it's an impossible choice.

Oberheim 4-voice is one of the few vintaj synthesisers I'd actually spend some $$ on (if I could find one) (or if I actually had any spare $$)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 22 April 2006 14:27 (twenty years ago)

five months pass...
pash,

what is happening with andrew losing the server (i guess he didn't?), you taking over and recoding a nu-ILX, and all the money raised by stet?

chakra khan chakra khan (sanskrit), Thursday, 5 October 2006 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

also, get cracking on the track frame, huh?

gbx (skowly), Thursday, 5 October 2006 14:49 (nineteen years ago)

Andrew is hearing from the current server hosts w/r/t continued sponsorship pretty soon. They do seem to have been dragging it out a bit. If the hosts continue the sponsorship, that's easiest obv, but itf they don't there are 2 alternatives waiting, one of which is funding it w/the money raised by Stet. That's about all I know at the moment, everything seems to be hanging on 'till Andrew hears from the hosts.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 5 October 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

have you ever been to Seahouses?

-- (688), Thursday, 5 October 2006 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

I have! I can't remember much about it except that the sky was grey.

I was in Wolverhampton on Sunday. I had a really good balti.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 5 October 2006 15:53 (nineteen years ago)

Pash, I'm currently renovating an Oberheim 4 voice. Should I let you know when I get it finished?

You can! Though bear in mind I'll 99% likely not be able to afford it.

If you come across any Rhodes Chroma voice cards, working or otherwise, or a Chroma pressure-sensor kit (this last one is a long long shot, I know) email me.

Other stuff I'm looking for:
Kawai K5000 program memory expander board
Waldorf Micro-Q polyphony expander board
E-mu polyphony, MIDI and output expander boards for Ultra-series sampler
Sampling board for Korg DDD1 drum machine
E-mu 32Mb flash rom cards for Proteus 2000 series modules

It's all long-shot stuff, but you never know.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 5 October 2006 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

I don't think the price will be as stratospheric as most of them, because it's in, shall we say, well-used shape.

Additional cool factor! At some point in it's last days, it appears that someone shot it 4 times with a .32 revolver (missing the internal boards, thank god.)

I wish I had the whole story behind that one...

Bullet holes, wow.

Let me know when it's done, I'll say yes or no really quickly.

the other vintaj piece I have a thing for is the RMI KC2, do you ever see them around?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 5 October 2006 16:22 (nineteen years ago)

No, but odd things seem to wander in here on a regular basis. I'll keep your list in mind.

The only other vintagey thing (keyboard-wise) we have right now is a decrepit Roland RS-2(?) string machine/stringer. El cheapola to anyone who wants it.

Sorry. RS-101, I think.

$150 vintage Challenger w/case is yers for the taking, fella.
