broheems you cannot seriously think, even if you like DNA, that they're the best no-wave band or anything.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 20 August 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

DNA is no Mars, and Mars is no Contortions.

Lydia Lunch was from ROCHESTER

hey, stence is there early Circle X stuff besides that EP that reissued on Dexter's Cigar? I think there is, isn't there. I need to hear everything they ever recorded.

Monetizing Eyeballs (diamond), Friday, 20 August 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I SAY AGAIN CIRCLE X.

Punk rock would not exist without Richard Hell from Lexington, Kentucky.
No wave would not exist without Circle X from Louisville, Kentucky

did red transistor do anything other than that "not bite/we're not crazy" 7"?

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 19:55 (twenty years ago)

recorded? no.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 19:55 (twenty years ago)

are there any live bootlegs floating around, even?

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 19:57 (twenty years ago)

sorta no. There were more things recorded, but not released. Von Lmo doesn't consider Rudolph Grey an essential aspect of Red Transistor, so according to Von, there's lots more. According to Von, anything he does is Red Transistor. I could never get a straight answer about the existance of more tapes with Grey. But that 7" of old material came out in the 90s, just to clear up confusion some may have.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 19:59 (twenty years ago)

thurston reissued the original in 1990 on ecstatic peace. the recording was made in 1977 (didn't we already talk about this on ILM i think).

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 20:11 (twenty years ago)

it wasn't a reissue, it never came out untill 1990. The recording was old, but it had never been released.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 20:13 (twenty years ago)

i thought it was a small pressing that only ended up in collector's hands (ie, eventually coley). don't meak me skim through my old 1990 zines to get the TRUTH!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 21:36 (twenty years ago)

Dan, the Red Transistor single was released on Red Star Records. Let me google.

-- gygax! (gygax0...), April 28th, 2004 4:39 PM. (gygax!)

5. Von Lmo: Born on the planet Strazar and raised in the "black light dimension," Von Lmo (whose last name rhymes with "well Moe") teleported to Earth in the late-'70s to play industrial noise in a handful of New York No Wave bands. The best known of these is Red Transistor, which recorded a single with the somewhat unlikely title of "We're Not Crazy" for Red Star Records. It didn't actually see the light of day until Sonic Youth guitarist Thurston Moore released it on his Ecstatic Peace label. After a 10-year stint in "suspended animation," Lmo is once again releasing albums of blistering noise.

-- gygax! (gygax0...), April 28th, 2004 4:40 PM. (gygax!)

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 21:46 (twenty years ago)

and dan replied that "it didn't actually see the light of day" but i think that there was a small pressing... i have a vague memory of seeing a ridiculously out of control online auction.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 21:48 (twenty years ago)

the Ecstatic Peace singles were going for lots of money until Byron found a box of them a few years ago. I've never heard any mention of a test pressing. There's a pretty recent CD comp that Marty Thau put out with some (presumably) old stuff under the name Red Transistor.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 1 September 2004 21:55 (twenty years ago)

Hi all you RED TRANSISTOR FANS out there! The single never came out originally. I have a live tape of Red Transistor! (It's not very good quality, though.) The "Red Transistor" tracks on that Red Star, Songs of the Naked City compilation are actually an early version of the VON LMO BAND.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 2 September 2004 00:27 (twenty years ago)

I hereby propose all further NOIZE DEBATES to be settled by an early 90s ZINE DUDE of each other's choice.

but I've been saying that all along! (he pouts...)

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 2 September 2004 02:14 (twenty years ago)

One of the tunes on the live tape is an LMO song called "Psychobra."
