val (notvalery), Friday, 12 May 2006 20:29 (nineteen years ago)

generally yes

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 12 May 2006 20:35 (nineteen years ago)

grrrrrr...... my house is FREEZING. I blame my housemate.

val (notvalery), Friday, 12 May 2006 20:38 (nineteen years ago)

oh I have this problem all the time, I am always cold and if I turn up the heat people get mad at me :(

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 12 May 2006 20:42 (nineteen years ago)

My parents are penny-pinching New Englanders and thus our house is always "seasonal".

JW (ex machina), Friday, 12 May 2006 20:48 (nineteen years ago)

I leave my house seasonal if by seasonal you mean "Texas seasons."

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 12 May 2006 20:49 (nineteen years ago)

My boss made the maintenance guy come up here and take the office temp -- it was 79 degrees this morning AT MY DESK. Ack ack.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 12 May 2006 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, my parents too... but kelvin has ALL the windows open right now. like it's not cold enough.

val (notvalery), Friday, 12 May 2006 20:57 (nineteen years ago)

GIRLS ARE ALWAYS COLD

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 12 May 2006 20:59 (nineteen years ago)

hstencil speaks truth!

ALLAH FROG (Mingus Dew), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:00 (nineteen years ago)

Except for the part where I've had the fan on all day because it's 80 degrees in my office and I'm actually sweaty? Yeah, except for that.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:01 (nineteen years ago)

Laurel you are a lady, not a girl. Maybe?

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:01 (nineteen years ago)

That must be it. Plus this corset and 14 petticoats are heavier than you might think.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:03 (nineteen years ago)

80 degrees is nothing! I suggest finding a rock to bake on under the warm sun

ALLAH FROG (Mingus Dew), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:03 (nineteen years ago)

it's because your roommate's body temperature is based on the kelvin scale. LIKE DUH!

jäxøñ (jaxon), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:06 (nineteen years ago)

val (notvalery), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:15 (nineteen years ago)

Girls always cold not true. I keep the thermostat at 80 and she's always turning it down all Metal Gear Solid so I'll come home to freezing cold.

adam (adam), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:51 (nineteen years ago)

i'm a particularly slender man and i'm always fucking hot. i think my extra body heat burns off calories

jäxøñ (jaxon), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:53 (nineteen years ago)

LauraH's room is about 10 degrees cooler than mine at night and 10x louder during the day.

JW (ex machina), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:54 (nineteen years ago)

GIRLS ARE ALWAYS COLD

i was just talking about this the other day! i think it is true, maybe.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 12 May 2006 22:01 (nineteen years ago)

Are you guys just like totally ignoring Laurel for some weird reason or something?

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Saturday, 13 May 2006 04:34 (nineteen years ago)

Par for the course, Ally. Anyway, maybe part of the myth comes from the fact that girls are often UNDERDRESSED? In an attempt to, y'know, look girly? So unless you boys are particularly fond of ski pants and wool socks and hope never to see a bare leg again, I suggest you all watch it.

Laurel (Laurel), Saturday, 13 May 2006 23:51 (nineteen years ago)

Statistical anomaly, Ally! Often what is covered can be sexier than what is brazenly shown, Laurel. Besides, around here, that's a hollow threat. Tantamount to suicide in this weather.

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 12:22 (nineteen years ago)

It doesn't matter what the hell I'm wearing, it ain't got nothing to do with underdressing! I'm just always cold!

Until summertime then it's also happy time for me :D

but seriously fuck some under 80 degree weather.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

I think I am cold all the time because my parents kept the heat at "one notch above 60" my whole life.

JW (ex machina), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 22:17 (nineteen years ago)

err, that doesn't make sense. Maybe that is why I am "not fat"?

JW (ex machina), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 22:20 (nineteen years ago)

yeah. you're not fat. also, there's the case of my fattie boss a the MoS who is a woman - her office is like an icebox.

then again, I get cold easily, especially at night... :/

val (notvalery), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 22:26 (nineteen years ago)

because you don't wear clothing

The Jazz Guide to Penguins on Compact Disc (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 22:43 (nineteen years ago)

in winter my house is freezing even when I have on like six layers of clothes, maybe I should just get fat. you'd think logically it'd be the coldest states in this country that are the fattest, but no..

dar1a g (daria g), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 22:47 (nineteen years ago)

a la leeks: "I wanna get fat... yeeeaaaa."

val (notvalery), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 22:50 (nineteen years ago)

I don't get too cold at night really despite lack of proper clothing because the mangfriend has a core body temperature of like 148F or something, he's constantly hot and radiates enough heat to actually be completely uncomfortable to be next to sometimes.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 18 May 2006 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

THAT IS BECAUSE MEN ARE ALWAYS HOT AND WOMEN ARE ALWAYS COLD

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 18 May 2006 15:32 (nineteen years ago)

holla

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Thursday, 18 May 2006 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

Except for Laurel, or my mom, or my friend Justine, or...etc etc!!!

Tom is an unusual case, other men have agreed with me, that he seems to consistently be unusually hot. I have never personally been around anyone who was always so warm, it's like living with a space heater. And as everyone knows I've been around a LOT of men!

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 18 May 2006 15:37 (nineteen years ago)

put your hand on my forehead.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 18 May 2006 15:37 (nineteen years ago)

I have touched you before! I don't remember you being especially abnormal!

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 18 May 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

Also I have health conditions which MAKE me always cold, men could theoretically have that happen to them. I am a bad example of a "woman," in general.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 18 May 2006 15:39 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah I'm going to let that slide RIGHT BY, Ally.

I am a girl-shaped heater, srsly, but I do underdress sometimes because I leave the house and I don't FEEL LIKE wearing a heavy coat and I'm like 'FUCK THE WEATHER' which of course in the end only hurts me but hey, "Unhelpfully Defiant" is my other middle name.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 18 May 2006 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 18 May 2006 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

XP: Yes but I am squareish and compact, with relatively little surface area per bulk. Or something. And I heat up v efficiently as soon as I start moving so if I am cold I just have to eat something and/or take a brisk walk.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 18 May 2006 15:55 (nineteen years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 18 May 2006 15:55 (nineteen years ago)

what does being square have to do with things? I don't understand ppl's science anymore.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 18 May 2006 15:57 (nineteen years ago)

no offense intended, ally ;_;

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Thursday, 18 May 2006 15:59 (nineteen years ago)

It's ok, i was just fuckin with ya

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 18 May 2006 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

Ally, a loose explanation: you lose heat as it radiates outward from yr organs and/or blood vessels, esp in the abdomen (where most organs are located) and anywhere that blood vessels are very near the surface. And because you are taller and thinner than I, you have more surface area in comparison to interior space. Sense?

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 18 May 2006 16:07 (nineteen years ago)

Actually I totally made that up, it seems relatively sensible but I think I'm not accounting for other factors. So don't base any important research conclusions on it, okay?

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 18 May 2006 16:11 (nineteen years ago)

Oh man just as I was writing it down into my "MEN I KNOW: HEAT TEMPERATURES" notebook :(

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 18 May 2006 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

OK

FAT IS AN INSULATOR

There are two types of adipose tissue: white and brown. Most adipose tissue is of the white type. White adipose tissue has three functions: heat insulation, cushioning, and as an energy source. The later is the most important. The insulation function is mainly attributable to the adipose tissue found just underneath the skin--the subcutaneous adipose tissue--as this tissue conducts heat only one third as efficiently as other tissues.

1. The relationship between body fat content, isometric endurance and deep muscle temperature was assessed in eight male and female volunteers trained to static effort. 2. Muscle temperature, measured in the belly of the brachioradialis muscle, was found to be directly related to the subject's body fat content. 3. Associated with a reduction in body fat content, there was a marked decrease in deep muscle temperature and an increase in isometric endurance of the hand-grip muscles; no change in strength was noted. 4. Conversely, an increase in body fat content resulted in an increase in deep muscle temperature and a decrease in isometric endurance. 5. When muscle temperature was stabilized before and after weight loss by immersing the forearm in water at 37 degrees C, a reduction in body fat no longer influenced endurance. 6. It was concluded that the change in isometric endurance associated with either loss or gain of weight can be accounted for entirely by the changes in muscle temperature.

DOES THAT MAKE SENSE

Okay, Tom weighs a tiny bit more. WHAT A RELIEF. And the thread title is about fat but I think the line of questioning has migrated enough that you shoudln't worry yr pretty little head about the ed system. Or not for our sake, anyway.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 18 May 2006 16:21 (nineteen years ago)

insulation vs. radiation!!! giving off heat is not the same as "experiencing it" on this thread

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 18 May 2006 16:40 (nineteen years ago)

wait wait wait

laurel, weren't you consistantly only smoking 1/2 cigarettes the night j0el made this, now classic assertion, round the bar because you would end up freezing? (though i do think you were underdressed)

Dude fuck you for weighing 160 and change.

Dan (Back To The Gym With Me) Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 18 May 2006 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

That is exactly why J0el MADE the assertion, I WAS underdressed, and probably underfed as well since I was coming from 2 hr. rehearsal with no dinner (so no fuel left to burn). So fuck you all.
