Laurel supposed to be 48 pix square

JW (ex machina), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 16:27 (nineteen years ago)

you can re-frame by pixel size, no biggie.

Select "save for web" and then select "low" from the settings menu that pops up

dar1a g (daria g), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 16:29 (nineteen years ago)

what kind of art is it? If it's a photo type thing, it has to be photoshop.

what DPI is required?

jpg or tiff?

Are you saving w/ compression?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 16:29 (nineteen years ago)

hmm.. if you don't want to make the image physically smaller, or mess with the res (you prob want to keep it at 72 dpi for web/computer use) then you should try increasing the compression, which is an option that pops up when you're saving the file as a jpeg (in photoshop).

val (notvalery), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 16:31 (nineteen years ago)

this may be different in pc, dunno?

1. select the crop tool. (quick key "c")
2. in top menu bar. make height and width 48 px. 72 dpi (this is going on web, right?)
3. file/save for web. save as jpg if photo-esque or has gradients. save as gif if flat colors or text. change optimization settings to get it down to 7kb without making it look like shit.

if you need anymore help. email me the file and i'll take care of it or hit me up on IM. soularfone

jäxøñ (jaxon), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 16:34 (nineteen years ago)

oops. forgot step
1b. drag crop tool around area of image you want to save. if original image is rectangle, you're gonna lose some pieces of it. if square, just drag around whole image. double click when you selected area you like.

jäxøñ (jaxon), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 16:36 (nineteen years ago)

u can change the size without croppin', tho.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 16:37 (nineteen years ago)

holding down the SHIFT key while selecting with rectagle marquee or crop tool will give you a square selection, right?

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 16:39 (nineteen years ago)

hahaha, the notion of "DPI" in screen graphics is for gaywads

JW (ex machina), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

for changing the size usually I just use "image size" and then change one dimension to 48px, whichever is larger, to shrink it down. then select "canvas size" and change the dimension that's larger than 48px to 48px, it'll crop off the extra - you can select where to anchor the image so it crops what side(s) you want. not the most precise method but we aren't super picky about cropping photos around here

Thanx everybody, I've got it now. The real solution was actually incredibly simple: SWITCH TO ICHAT. Courtesy of dibs.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 17:03 (nineteen years ago)

daria's method works too.

was this all just for ISHAT? can't u just drag it in there and resize w/in the program?

jäxøñ (jaxon), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

IChat is 1000x better than Adium or even (gag!!!) official AIM once IChax (tab plugin) is installed.

JW (ex machina), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 17:17 (nineteen years ago)
