I always did wonder why they didn't just title it "Space Truckin'/Mandrake Root" on Live in Japan. I guess they just fully wanted to kiss the Evans era goodbye or something. Probably feeling the rising heat from Captain Beyond.

well, on Made in Japan, they just take the end jam of Mandrake Root and stick onto the end of Space Truckin', except it's longer and so not quite as concentrated intense as that clip. but yeah, similar sonics -- Blackmore scraping strings, Glover detuning his bass, Lord kicks his amp, etc. those guys fuckin ruled. As a kid I used to listen to that tape and have no idea what was going on -- so nice to actually see a classic clip of them freaking out like that.
