The fact that he's trying to listen to the Shins is hurting his cred with me, but the content of that "service disruption" sign is possibly the funniest thing in the strip.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 16:10 (nineteen years ago)

hahaha they had one of those belgian fry guy statues in athens ga

and what (ooo), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

the one about the belgian fry guy made me lol

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

he really captures the moody drunk expression it has!!

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO DECIBEL?

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 16:19 (nineteen years ago)

Will this shorten the Macdougal Street's line any? Out the door all hours!

"the g train replaces the f train, but only kind of" = BRILLIANT

sometimes it takes an earthquake to know where the fault lies (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 16:34 (nineteen years ago)

I was looking at the Alligator Lounge site and it turns out they're opening a location on 7th St and 2nd Ave.

lord pooperton (ex machina), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 16:41 (nineteen years ago)

the thing I always notice about the fry guy is that he's eating himself

Renard (Renard), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 16:51 (nineteen years ago)

also hurting his cred:
chipotle can't suck if they've given me at least 10 free burritos since 2004
dude said "hungry man"-esque
(also: velselka ain't bad)
graphic designer dead horse
faggy last frame

but yeah that fry guy is somethin else...

/4 LFG PST (blastocyst), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

also hurting his cred:

likely lives in park slope

lord pooperton (ex machina), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 17:33 (nineteen years ago)

I mean, that entire strip is one dead horse.

trees (treesessplode), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

the only good thing there is Dojo because it is fucking cheap

lord pooperton (ex machina), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 21:09 (nineteen years ago)

in my poorer days i frequented toy sushi, the place that started doing half price sushi after 9/11. they push enough volume of fish that it was actually pretty good.

jinx hijinks (sanskrit), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 23:28 (nineteen years ago)

dojo is so nasty, though. my friend found a large-ish metal bolt in here salad the last time i was at that branch. go, yakitori taisho, and oh-taisho are all pretty good, and then there's grand sichuan - delicious.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 23:33 (nineteen years ago)

noizem duke (noize duke), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 23:39 (nineteen years ago)

jinx hijinks (sanskrit), Thursday, 8 June 2006 13:27 (nineteen years ago)

last time i was at dojo my friend tried to skimp on the bill and they caught us and he had to go to an ATM and get money and i had to stand there and wait for him and it was really embarassing. so.

killy (baby lenin pin), Thursday, 8 June 2006 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

Goddamn hipsters and yuppies ruining my enjoyment of the Shins on my iPod...

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Thursday, 8 June 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

i ate at go yesterday. verrry good.

sleep (sleep), Thursday, 8 June 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

dojo is disgusting. worst restaurant in new york.
mamouns opening next to chickpea? i like chickpea.
complaining about hipsters is really boring
homeless guys shitting on your doorstep, yuck

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 8 June 2006 18:29 (nineteen years ago)

CHICKPEA SUCKS

lord pooperton (ex machina), Thursday, 8 June 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

Renard (Renard), Thursday, 8 June 2006 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

chickpea is yum. they just opened on 14th & 3rd, next to yet another dumpling place.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 8 June 2006 19:06 (nineteen years ago)

CHICKPEA IS AWFUL, PODIS

lord pooperton (ex machina), Thursday, 8 June 2006 21:34 (nineteen years ago)

I think the St. Marks Dojo is way worse than the W4 one.... I remember a sammich falling to pieces.

lord pooperton (ex machina), Thursday, 8 June 2006 21:42 (nineteen years ago)

you're in the minority, wms.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 8 June 2006 21:58 (nineteen years ago)

fry guy in seattle, too. I think he's belgian.

Grass Roots, dood

Washable School Paste (sexyDancer), Friday, 9 June 2006 14:12 (nineteen years ago)

is that place (chickpea) on like... 13 & 3d? i think my best friend lives right above that place. if you look down from his window you see the heads of eaters.

killy (baby lenin pin), Friday, 9 June 2006 14:13 (nineteen years ago)

no, it's 3rd and st marks, next to the continental, where the pizza place used to be, where it was really hot one day so I bought a bottle of Evian and Joey Ramone was standing behind me and he said "yeah, that sounds good today, a nice cold bottle of Evian."

true story.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 9 June 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

grass roots has great bloody marys.

xpost - wow, haven't heard that one before.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 9 June 2006 14:16 (nineteen years ago)

Grass Roots has best darts set-up I ever saw in NYC. Cig in one hand, dart in the other, gimlet within reach...I miss you, Smoking New York!

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 9 June 2006 14:23 (nineteen years ago)

Jor-el took me to Grassroots during NFF1 and Wolf Guys were there; my first nyc d-list celeb moment!

lord pooperton (ex machina), Friday, 9 June 2006 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

haha, my ex-Contortions friend usta make me meet him at Grass Roots, I never warmed to it.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Friday, 9 June 2006 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

YELLOWCARDS FOR ALL CHICKPEA FANS!

lord pooperton (ex machina), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:28 (nineteen years ago)

religious sex closed, but t&v is still there.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:37 (nineteen years ago)

personal preference. i like moist, smaller, green-spiced felafel not the bigger dried out yellowish kind. also, they bake their own bread and have mango hot sauce.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:38 (nineteen years ago)

the yellowcard is adorable!!

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:40 (nineteen years ago)

fine, more moist felafels, creamy hummus, fluffy pitas, hot israelis for me. more bland, dry, dojo burgers, stale sprouts, and carrot-ginger slop for you.

phil-two (phil-two), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:40 (nineteen years ago)

I can't remember if I went to Dojo once back in hs or college, but I've certainly never been more than once.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:41 (nineteen years ago)

the avocado sammiches + bacon at dojo rule

lord pooperton (ex machina), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

i just switched over from punjabi to pak punjab, way better. theres an east village insider tip for y'all. the spinach in particular is way way better than mashy "greens"

noizem duke (noize duke), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:44 (nineteen years ago)

Chickpea is fucking crumbly tasteless garbage next to the sublime falafel of EAST SIDE POCKETS (which I ate for 4 years for lunch). In addition, so many more ingredients in the pockets!!

Daria, Ian, Elmo.Oxygen, Laura H, MILFMCGEE, to thread to confirm

lord pooperton (ex machina), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:45 (nineteen years ago)

pak punjab

location?

Pwnjabi tastes like microwave indian food :(

lord pooperton (ex machina), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:46 (nineteen years ago)

are any of these village falafels better than Alfanoose? Taim?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:46 (nineteen years ago)

http://images.wcities.com/www.wcities.com/cityrecords/278014.jpg

east side pockets oh yeah
little falafely donuts fried up so nice

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:49 (nineteen years ago)

Would you agree to its (FUCKING VAST) superiority to Chickpea?

Sidenote: my friend's schizophrenic mother had an affair with one of the dudes there!

lord pooperton (ex machina), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:50 (nineteen years ago)

Good places to eat include:
KLONG for the 6.50 pad thai shrimp/fried tofu
That grocery store under the Chipotle. Six dollar massive deli sandwiches and they don't charge for adding avocado
Chickpea is fine every once in awhile. They have good honeycake!

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:52 (nineteen years ago)

pak punjab is on 2nd and 3rd or 4th, if it's the one i'm thinking of. it was my post-mars bar stop for quite some time. volcanically spicy samosas.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:53 (nineteen years ago)

I dined & dashed at some crappy new pan-asian on St. Mark's in March
Chikpea is good for stopping in to take a leak -- (pull door hard)

And is anyone else diggin Rai Rai Ken?

/4 LFG PST (blastocyst), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:53 (nineteen years ago)

rrk is definitely better than a lot of e.v. ramen.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:57 (nineteen years ago)

Chikpea is good for stopping in to take a leak -- (pull door hard)

one for the db

lord pooperton (ex machina), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:58 (nineteen years ago)

never had chickpea! so i cannot compare.

i kinda like veselka, though! i used to work in the same building (ukranian national home, i think it's called) and they do a nice bacon egg & cheez on a big crusty roll, which i would eat for breakfast at least twice a week.

elmo argonaut (allocryptic), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:58 (nineteen years ago)

veselka's mostly fine, but i'm just as happy paying less for more unrefined versions of the same thing at little poland or christine's or polonia.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 9 June 2006 17:00 (nineteen years ago)

Veselkas best at three in the morning.
Little Poland is much better in general. I like the Hungry Man combo platter.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Friday, 9 June 2006 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

Alfanoose pwns

I work near Wall St so I have it at least once a week

they even have a manifesto "every falafel ball is formed and fried especially for you"

Renard (Renard), Friday, 9 June 2006 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

Little Poland = "Very Special" Perogi
