I doubt this is the person you're talking about, but anthony bourdain wrote one of my favorite quotes: "Vegetarians are the enemy of everything good and decent in the human spirit" (from kitchen confidential).

I'm pretty sure that's the same Anthony Bourdain. Wasn't there a tv show based on that book?

oh it is? I'm not sure about any developments about tv shows and stuff...

I also like that the man eats his meat rare.

I saw part of an episode of that tv show a few days ago. I haven't read anything of his but it was interesting because they went to a village in Korea and made KIMCHI. his tour guide was a Korean-American girl & she insisted they go to karaoke.. so at the end of the show they are in this room with pink flowered wallpaper & stuffed animals & she & a couple other girls are singing and having a great time, while Bourdain sits there drinking + smoking + looking incredibly uptight and embarrassed. it was great

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 16 June 2006 18:45 (nineteen years ago)

(this thread makes me happy b/c it proves to me that anthony bourdain is not nearly as well known as the chicago thread would make it seem like he is.)

So the original post in this thread (before being rendered incomprehensible by the prankster Stormy Davis) made vague reference to me getting an opportunity to speak with "Tony" before an appearance at SF's Commonwealth Club a couple months ago.

Like most long-time New Yorkers, he puts on a tough edge but he's a big sweety. And he is big, he made me feel slight. Musicwise he's stuck in that eternal NYC late 70s proto-punk and canon jazz mode, we all know the type.

The highlight was when we shared our favorite "secret" sushi spots, in the USA and Japan... both of us taking fastidious notes.
