From my house in Miami, I can hear dozens of car horns and a train and gunshots. Is there a major sporting event occuring that I am unaware of?

srsly, that's what we do when we win the world series or the nba championship. guess it's time for a midnight bike ride to find out.

xpost

that's what i figured but all the news outlets say that he is just temporarily handing power to his brother. still a big deal here i guess

i do love these late-night street celebrations, that ride to calle ocho was awesome

everybody is riding on top of cars and trucks waving flags. dancing to the endless drone of thousands of car horns! i meant to bring my tape recorder but forgot it in my excitement.

OK, so his press secretary reads a prepared letter where he says he is stepping down due to stress for a surgery and he won't be visible for several weeks because of recuperation time so he is transfering power to his brother.

BUT THE TRUTH IS HE HAS KICKED THE BUCKET AND THIS IS AN ELABORATE STALIN ERA RUSE WHILE THE GOVERNMENT SCRAMBLES TO COVER IT UP.

i don't think the cuban government is organized enough for that, quite frankly

STILL IT WOULD BE RAD, WOULDN'T IT????

interestingly enough, this description: Extreme stress "had provoked in me a sharp intestinal crisis with sustained bleeding that obligated me to undergo a complicated surgical procedure."

is pretty much the story of my life this month!!

Do Cuban people that are still in Cuba hate Castro as much as Cuban expatriates do or is it the kind of deal where the Cubans that left/got kicked out are the ones that hate him and the Cubans that are still in Cuba like him just fine?

i think that people either hate him or accept him, i've never really heard of anybody actively liking him.

that varies... those that stay don't exactly get to strut their anti-castro vibe too much any hoot. the govt has pretty specific laws curtailing free assembly.

not to be too anti-castro either. i think you can look at a lot of latin america and see how big corporations via free markets have fucked over the people just as bad as totalitarian bs.

like i have a clue. i'm just sort of regurgitating what cuban friends have said over beers.
