Conversations on Art
On Three Tales: Beryl Korot and Steve Reich - Tue October 10, 2006

In conjunction with city- and worldwide celebrations of composer Steve Reich's seventieth birthday, the Whitney presents Three Tales, a sound and video installation by Beryl Korot and Steve Reich. Based on their celebrated 2002 video opera, Three Tales explores the physical, ethical, and theological implications of expanding technologies. Join Korot and Reich as they discuss this and other collaborative projects; WNYC's John Schaefer (Soundcheck, New Sounds) moderates the conversation. The exhibition opens October 4 and will remain on view through October 15, 2006.

Admission: $8; members, senior citizens, and students with valid ID $6. Advance sales are strongly recommended, as seating is limited. Tickets may be purchased at the Museum Admissions Desk or by visiting www.whitney.org.

I may go to the dance thing at BAM, so my girlfriend won't get bored!

I really didn't like Three Tales, I had the DVD, the video effects were strictly Video Toaster. I did however see the Cave when it was first at BAM and it was wonderful.

I don't know about the BAM stuff...I'm not so up on "dance" and I think most of it is to new Reich compositions. Actually, the Mykel Rouse thing down the street looks really cool.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 5 October 2006 20:28 (eighteen years ago)

though my girlfriend was like, if I'm going, I'd prefer the Dance thing to the thing with nothing to watch but musicians playing repetitious music for hours.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 5 October 2006 20:29 (eighteen years ago)

i'm not into dance either, but i feel the same way as your girlfriend.

half of it is new Reich compositions, half is ol' standards!

and i quote:

"Longtime Reich collaborator Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker opens the evening with her fiery Fase, four movements to the music of Steve Reich, a 50-minute series of solos and duets featuring De Keersmaeker set to Reich's Violin Phase, Piano Phase, Clapping Music, and Come Out, completed in 1982. Acclaimed British dancer and choreographer Akram Khan follows with the US premiere of Variations for Vibes, Pianos and Strings, a work for three dancers set to a commissioned Reich score for four vibraphones, two pianos, and three string quartets performed live by the intrepid London Sinfonietta, conducted by Alan Pierson."
