Serious question: does anyone know of a really nice, well-built, sturdy cell phone? Dont need fancy features i just want a good phone that dont feel like it's gonna break so easy. Why don't they make metal cell phones? I would buy an iPhone if it has the same exterior hardware quality of an ipod.

just discovered salling clicker and am freaking out

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 11 September 2006 23:32 (nineteen years ago)

E815 is the one pictured i think? it was discontinued because it had horrible freezing issues. the V710 is metal too i think. if you want sturdy then get one of those huge horrible motorolas that look like an 80s sony walkman.

chaki (chaki), Monday, 11 September 2006 23:36 (nineteen years ago)

I have a metal phone. Samsung RAZR knockoff through Sprint.

Feels sturdy, but it's wearing worse than any phone I've had before. The outer screen scratches easily and the black paint is wearing off to shiny metal.

my new lg vcast is ok but it's not very intuitive (which my nokia was).

ruddy raleigh and the rickets (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 11 September 2006 23:39 (nineteen years ago)

i ordered a new cell phone from verizon last week and the first rep i talked to said, "oh the phone was delivered but it was returned to sender!" i replied, "oh that's okay, just send it again". long silence, followed by, "which phone would you like?" i said, "whatever one i ordered". long story short, they didn't have a record of which phone i ordered. and then i was disconnected because my call dropped. i called them again, and the second rep told me they didn't have a record of the failed delivery.

gear (gear), Monday, 11 September 2006 23:41 (nineteen years ago)

anyway i'm keeping my old phone.

gear (gear), Monday, 11 September 2006 23:41 (nineteen years ago)

nerding out on treo 700p =

4gb media player
+plays non-apple supported media)
+blue-tooth stereo broadcast to bluetooth headphones (no cords/wires)

no wi-fi, but has evdo
+dsl wireless speeds in metro areas (pricy but get your employer to expense it)

if cutty likes sailing clicker, he might like MyTunesRSS/orb
+remote streaming access to your home media library
+i'm not a TV head but you can even slingbox in to live TV

early adopter syndrome = :-\

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 00:18 (nineteen years ago)

all i care about is that i can do TEXT MESSAGING. other creature comforts can go fuck themselves.

killy (baby lenin pin), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 00:28 (nineteen years ago)

the lg/verizon text messaging suxors because it won't tell you if your message was delivered successfully unless you're texting to another verizon phone. if not, it says "delivery incomplete" regardless of whether or not the message went through.

ruddy raleigh and the rickets (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 00:32 (nineteen years ago)

i like the RAZR because it is thin but it has a weak camera and the vibrate feature is really poor, which is bothersome.

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 00:33 (nineteen years ago)

I want a PDA-style phone just so I can text message. Scrolling through letters is more trouble than it's worth.

milo z (mlp), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 00:53 (nineteen years ago)

If the Treo 700p had wi-fi and didn't cost $650, it would be perfect.

milo z (mlp), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 00:54 (nineteen years ago)

yeah one thing i miss about my old phone is that my razr has no "vibe and ring" feature

john cougar thornton melloncamp (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 01:00 (nineteen years ago)

i should also mention that i have a razr only because i am too lazy to transfer the number over to my blackberry.

cousin larry bundgee (bundgee), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 01:02 (nineteen years ago)

never had a cellphone

señor citizen (eman), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 01:36 (nineteen years ago)

i hate verizon because i can not get the pretty phone i want because it is gsm and not cdma and verizon is the devil when it comes to locking phone features and texting (only unlimited to other verizon peeps so i end up paying a lot anyway). i still have a year left :(

i have had the e815 pictured above for a year... works pretty well. it does freeze occasionally. do you think i could complain and get a new phone for free???

ugh i just checked verizon to see if i could change the txting plan and apparently now the $5 a month covers 250 unlimited messages to anyone, but if i change to that i would have to renew my contract i think. bastards.

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 13:05 (nineteen years ago)

i'm pretty happy with cingular. service is fine, plan rates are decent, and though they've screwed up every bill so far it only takes a quick call to get them to sort things out. in fact, they always credit me back more money than i deserve. i like that feature.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

how the hell are you texting that much?...yr not a fourteen yr old girl!

that was an exaggeration

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

I wish my nokia 770 had an app to allow me to bluetooth texts to my nokia 3660.

While I'm wishing, it'd be cool if it could pull incoming texts into the email app.

well to anyone who has verizon: always remember when you renew/change your contract i think they're supposed to give you a new phone or a new phone discount. even if they aren't you can easily convince the idiots at the union sqaure verizon store that they should

bla$$$t (blastocyst), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

I could get a blackberry pearl today but I have no particular use for it. Also I heard EDGE is slow, my reception is bad enough without paying extra for something slow and useless.

What other T-mobile phone should I get instead? The PEBL is out, I don't want anymore motorola shit in my life.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

Motorola is the Sony of mobiles, amirite?
Which makes Sony Ericcson like the Creative of mobiles?

Really cool, wickedly cool, cooly cool bon apetit! (ex machina), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

Somebody should take note of the fact that all phones currently on sale from everywhere would look 200% better if you inverted the color scheme

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 16:35 (nineteen years ago)

example?

These are features I want in my next cellphone:

1. hardcore rubber casing so no more fatal concrete drops
2. built-in flashlight

or should I say, "14 year old girl?"

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 18:43 (nineteen years ago)

verizon called me in the middle of the day one day to tell me i was avging 181 txts a month and that i could save 8 bucks a month if i got a txt plan.

Lazy Comet (plsmith), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

the black pearl seems cool but thirty extra bucks a month for EDGE is ridiculous

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

That's better than Sprint's EV-DO plan at $60/month (it's faster, but I don't need cable modem speed on my cell).

milo z (mlp), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 19:24 (nineteen years ago)

I'm using the TMobile TZones WAP plan ~$6 a month IIRC which gives you an HTTP-proxy'd connection. Works fine for web browsing from 770 and Pppppowerbook though.

Really cool, wickedly cool, cooly cool bon apetit! (ex machina), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 19:54 (nineteen years ago)

that nokia was insane w/ the scrolly wheel... maybe you'd get used to it after a while but it just seems like a txting nightmare to me.

7370 = PRETTY
