VISUAL ACID will too be defined on the basis of these revolutionary music computers. The centerpiece of the installation is a genuine 808, its basic functions harnessed to trigger a series of stroboscopic, fluorescent light fixtures through the unit's individual audio outputs (a remarkable and unique feature of the 808), thereby reimagining the instrument as a fully interactive visuals-generating tool. As its companion, an "Optical 303" squelches the imaged representations of signature Acid basslines, which are projected through rotating prisms and shot throughout the space as cinematic, rainbow-infused light.

that gallery show was disappointing. had 0 to do with acid, house or otherwise.

Dr. Alicia D. Titsovich (sexyDancer), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

They used an 808 to trigger stuff, which was cool, but you couldn't dance to it.

Find this classic comp:

"house halucinates"

also the Warp Influences CD.

it doesn't help the cause that pappawheelie's slsk collection is just outrageously rockist ("the museum of electronic music as curated by me", WTF)

nor does it help the cause that i tracked down every single last track on THE WIRE's "Miami Bass Primer" (it was in the boredoms cover issue) and they pretty much all sucked.

and then reynolds went to WMC and said "miami bass is the most african-sounding music in the world" and this was when i was really listening to a lot of ali farka toure and west african guitar music and highlife and moroccan pop and what not and i was like WTF man KILL WHITEY and KILL DR LIVINGSTONE and KILL HERGE, H RIDER HAGGARD, THE EMPEROR JONES and SIMON REYNOLDS TOO, fucking nail in the coffin, people.

trees (treesessplode), Monday, 2 October 2006 22:23 (nineteen years ago)

i'll be honest, i'm not really into those acid tracks vahid posted. they just sound like tweaked out, glowstick techno. i love the sound of the 303, but those tracks sound like they took all the "black" out of them. i really dig the early chicago tracks because there's still funk in them and (sorry for corny indie-fuxor), i dig what the DFA have done w/this sound.

the Helge Schneider song is bonkers and hillarious.

-- (688), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 08:19 (nineteen years ago)

jon if you have gta: san andreas, the SF:UR station is a pretty good intro, some of it is a bit towards the more pop/singing end of acid house tho. you can download it on slsk pretty easily, tho it has mildly annoying german dj parody shouting over it, from the game.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 10:40 (nineteen years ago)

omg that detroit video! are they squaredancing??

I'm on a total acid house kick right now as well. The only thing's I've got are 808 State's "Newbuild", "ex:el", and "Don Solaris". I NEED MORE!!! What for A Guy Called Gerald? "Hot Lemonade" or "Automanikk"? And could anyone narrow it down to like 5 or 10 suggestions?

man, i used to have those Warp 10+1 albums when they first came out and sold them because i didn't get them at the time. i musta wanted some really glitchy IDM or something. now i wish i still had them because they look so great.

jaxon (jaxon), Friday, 3 November 2006 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

you kind of can't go wrong w/ acid house comps. warp 10+1 is great, yes. so are the different volumes of low price music's "the best of acid".

my hands-down favorite, though, is we call it acieeed!!
