Art Spiegelman has also worked in more commercial forums: After a summer internship (when he was 18) at Topps Bubble Gum, he was hired as a consultant and remained as such for 20 years. For Topps, Spiegelman invented "Garbage Candy" (candy in the form of garbage, sold in miniature plastic garbage cans) and the Wacky Packages card series, and co-created (with Mark Newgarden), 'Garbage Pail Kids' stickers and cards.

I read there was some bad-blood with Newgarden regarding credit. I think some more "comix" artists of the Raw generation worked on these.

I totally collected Garbage Pail Kids.

i loved that rabid shave one. i had it on one of my notebooks for school. i loved them all. and, yes, i loved garbage candy too. this is gen x mania, man. i loved the garbage pail kids movie too. unless that was just a beautiful dream i had.

wait omg art spiegelman made garbage pail kids?!? so obsessed circa 4th grade. one time found a whole bunch of rare 1st edition ones in the trash @ school including the iconic adam bomb total score later that day 2 sixth graders rolled up on me bein all we heard you found our cards that mr yeats through away and i go i don't know what you guys are talking about i had beef w/those dudes for a while.
