oh man, where did all my pics go?

my have az is actually the first one, Symphonie Pour Le Jour Ou Bruleront Les Cites, it seems more boisterous and just kind of crazy than all of the others, but I like most of their stuff before they got almost totally electronic, I guess in the mid or late 80s

Dominique (dleone), Tuesday, 10 October 2006 19:56 (nineteen years ago)

my fave, that is

Dominique (dleone), Tuesday, 10 October 2006 19:58 (nineteen years ago)

my MESSAGE #7369140 opens the img src with a single instead of a double quote, which isn't caught by the html checker, and breaks the thread if don't turn off images

I remember liking Phase IV but I haven't heard it in a while, all I have is that double CD of the first three albums which is great but fucking exhausting

milton parker (Jon L), Tuesday, 10 October 2006 20:13 (nineteen years ago)

well, my posts keep disappearing. I might be able to up a zip file of some "frog prog" to sendspace later for anyone curious

those panta rhei mp3's jon linked to, the bartoks are kind of yikes but the completely sequenced stuff is hilarious.

i don't love Gong, but surprised they haven't been mentioned yet

jaxon (jaxon), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 02:49 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, Gong are definitely big influences in French prog, tho also seem not just a part of French music, but also of early Euro avant-rock (proto RIO? along w/Soft Machine, and counterparts in Zappa, Beefheart, maybe Faust in Germany). Actually, I want to be more into Gong.

Dominique (dleone), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 03:47 (nineteen years ago)

/You/ is one of my favorite albums

roc u like a § (ex machina), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 04:42 (nineteen years ago)

>thought were Belgian tho

you're right, they morphed into the french-singing Honeymoon Killers which is what threw me

I haven't heard that Ange that Woebot claims is one of the three most important prog bands of France. and it's time I should go get myself another copy of You, it's been years.

milton parker (Jon L), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 05:24 (nineteen years ago)

a friend gave me a copy of You w/o the cover art. i've only listened to it a bit and it never did it for me. i'll try again.

jaxon (jaxon), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 05:57 (nineteen years ago)

I don't have any of this french prog.
Got a promo of some French Canadian prog a few years ago; L'infonie.
Their third album (333). It's good.

i just listened to Gong's You again and felt it was just too wanky and fast. then realized i played the entire thing (and another record before it - that i felt had too little bass) on 45! doh!
