our cat: hey, you are cat! what the...?

neighbor cat: omg! you are also cat.

our cat: letz look at each other from a distance of about 20 or 30 feet and every once in a while we will look away and pretend that we don't see each other and they we will stare at each other some more and let's do this for about an hour or so and then we will both slowly walk away in opposite directions. ok?

neighbor cat: yah, cool. we are cat.

is catnip hallucinogenic? skippy starts freaking out and running away from things that aren't there sometimes, like an hour after playing with catnip.

"Catnip contains nepetalactone, a terpene, that is thought to mimic feline sex pheromones. Cats detect it through their vomeronasal organs."

"Terpenes are a large and varied class of hydrocarbons, produced primarily by a wide variety of plants, particularly conifers, though also by some insects such as swallowtail butterflies, which emit terpenes from their osmeterium. They are the major components of resin, and of turpentine produced from resin. The name "terpene" is derived from the word "turpentine". When terpenes are modified chemically, such as by oxidation or rearrangement of the carbon skeleton, the resulting compounds are generally referred to as terpenoids. Some authors will use the term terpene to include all terpenoids."

I sleep on my stomach, so my cats never had a good way to wake me up until one figured out that wrapping herself around my foot and kicking me with her claws while biting my toes at the same time woke me up tout suite.

Or got her a kick in the head if I was really tired/hungover.

milo z (mlp), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 04:02 (nineteen years ago)

why do cats, when preparing to lie in one's lap, push down with their front paws over and over again? i've heard theories ranging from something related to when they were nursing as kittens to it being something instinctual related to the pushing down of grass in the wild.

gear (gear), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 04:08 (nineteen years ago)

very young kitten sees bird on lawn from inside window, goes into psychedelic trance and begins seizure-chattering with jaw

ath (ath), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 04:14 (nineteen years ago)

oh and gear that is the classic "kneading" behavior, a behavioral remnant of kittendom wherein they would knead at their mom's teets to induce milkage.

i think its definitely the nursing thing. i had one cat who had been taken away from her mother too young, and her whole life (she died at 21!) she padded and pawed at bedding, clothing, everything, sucking on the cloth. oddly it was cute.

I can't seem to find anywhere comfortable/weird enough on the floor/sofa/etc, I am going to sit perched either on the very tip-top of your ricketiest rocking chair or on top of your water cooler (I like the gurgling), or, if I'm feeling particularly froggy, in a basket of clean clothes you haven't put away yet.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 17 October 2006 17:07 (nineteen years ago)

my cat (r.i.p. just had to be put to sleep a few days ago) used to play with the water coming out of the sink. it'd sit there for so long it'd have a pool of water collected in it's neck.

she used to really hate people. it'd lay on it's back to act cute, just to fucking attack the shit out of you when you'd try to pet it's belly.

also when she was in heat (even though we'd nutered her?), she'd hear my voice and she'd groan really loudly and rub her ass on the ground. but only my voice?

Is it true that cats memorize thier surroundings? Lie where couches and tables and chairs are so they can run around shit based on memory and not eyesight?

I used to live in a big loft space with a bunch of roomates and a cat. We had about five sofas and several chairs that would get moved into different configurations on a daily basis based on what projects people were working on or who wanted to shoot hoops the night before. Count, the poor cat, would walk out of my roomate's bedroom every morning, walk out to the main space and just sit there looking at the furniture going "fuck.... goddamit.... shit." and not move for a good half hour.

anyone have tried that trick where you are standing up and when your cat passes by you, you slide one of your foot on the ground of like 30 degrees quick-like to make a little "fwoosh" sound : if your cat is noob to it you can expect it to jump high enough for you to catch it in mid air aouah@ one of my friends showed that to me (and she loves her cat). is it a generalized cat weirdness i must kno plzzzz
