also, i don't know if this is dave's forte, but i want to pick up some detroit techno records, so recommendations on that also appreciated!

― a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 20 October 2006 05:01 (twenty years ago)

― a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 20 October 2006 05:01 (twenty years ago)

are you going to be here for monday night drinking club?

― sometimes my entire life be like DAMNNN! (tehresa), Friday, 20 October 2006 05:08 (twenty years ago)

i will be in nyc from octo 21 to octo 28 so yes!

― a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 20 October 2006 05:10 (twenty years ago)

excellent!

― sometimes my entire life be like DAMNNN! (tehresa), Friday, 20 October 2006 05:17 (twenty years ago)

yeah not sure about detroit stuff, maybe Dance Tracks? 3rd St and 1st Ave in the village

I don't really go to that many out-of-the-way places, just most of the ones everybody knows about, Other Music, Mondo Kim's on St Mark's, Academy, Turntablelab (prob. have some detroit reissues), Etherea, Sound Fix. A1 and Sound Library are kinda expensive but they have pretty good stuff.

this should be cross-referenced on ASK SANSKRIT and ASK SELZER and several others

― dmr (Renard), Friday, 20 October 2006 05:19 (twenty years ago)

unrelated: what is the thread with 29 new answers that you can't see the title? inquiring minds. do I just have an old-ass browser?

― dmr (Renard), Friday, 20 October 2006 05:26 (twenty years ago)

okay thank you dave

― a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 20 October 2006 13:06 (twenty years ago)

the sound library is good for browsing/drooling and making a list of
things to look for elsewhere. definitely worth visiting for the selection, but their prices are generally high since they deal with a lot of serious collectors and musicians and such.

― trees (treesessplode), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:29 (twenty years ago)

also who stayin wit?

― trees (treesessplode), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:32 (twenty years ago)

speaking of dancehall, where for those records?

― a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:42 (twenty years ago)

trees, i'm not sure where i'm staying yet, and i don't know if i'll be able to stay the whole time because of my terminal neighbor... so i'm trying not to make other plans right now. i'll let you know once i have a better idea of my commitments to her family in miami.

― a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:44 (twenty years ago)

understandable. you realize, though, that i'm just gonna skip school and stay in ny for a few more days if you're not coming to oberlin. also, i'm sure that mat's place is open to you.

― trees (treesessplode), Friday, 20 October 2006 16:49 (twenty years ago)

yeah, it sounds like halcyon would be lfam's sort of place. dance trax maybe, but thats more classic dance sounds.

for reasonable prices hit eat records and academy on n6, tho i don't think there's much in the way of techno

dan's pal jeremy put together these great google maps:

http://www.wildernessclassroom.com/www/schoolhouse/rainforest_library/animal_images/sloth.jpg

I buy records @ Kim's & Other Music like the tourist scum I am, FWIW. And my favorite color is chartruse.

― David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 30 October 2006 17:31 (twenty years ago)

― trees (treesessplode), Monday, 30 October 2006 17:58 (twenty years ago)

― a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Monday, 30 October 2006 19:19 (twenty years ago)

ha ha ha. sorry. i just had an inkling that it wasn;t going to be that good. and the second query?

― trees (treesessplode), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 00:51 (twenty years ago)

― sometimes my entire life be like DAMNNN! (tehresa), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 00:58 (twenty years ago)

For Detroit Techno the best stores are Sonic Groove, Throb and Temple. Wait...those stores are all gone! Techno is dead! When you get back to Ohio go to Dan Curtin's techno store in cleveland, Deep. Wait, that's gone too.

― a name means a lot just by itself (lfam), Tuesday, 31 October 2006 23:22 (twenty years ago)
