one year passes...

Dear JBR,

how often a year would you say you listen to the song "From New York to L.A." by Patsy Gallant?

and I already know Jody Rosen's opinion of Billy Joel. What is yours? Is he a hometown hero?

Sincerely,

P. Plains

Pleasant Plains, Saturday, 1 March 2008 05:38 (seventeen years ago)

dear pleasant plains,

i'm not sure i know that song. but i do like waylon jennings' "too dumb for new york city, too ugly for l.a."!

i cannot stand billy joel. what is it about long island that produces these arch, mugging, eager-to-entertain suburban bar mitzvah boys like him and adam sandler? also he has turned into a textbook affluent boomer douchebag.

get bent, Saturday, 1 March 2008 05:54 (seventeen years ago)

one of the better things about l.a. radio stations is that they don't play very much billy joel (way more of a presence in the new york area). but, as a downside to regional radio quirks, i now hear more social distortion than i've ever wanted to.

get bent, Saturday, 1 March 2008 06:00 (seventeen years ago)

i think that creatively/aesthetically jackson browne is the west coast billy joel. but no one ever talks about (or plays) jackson browne these days.

get bent, Saturday, 1 March 2008 06:03 (seventeen years ago)

xpost

everyone i know calls them "social d"

"From New York to LA' was originlly this song

tokyo rosemary, Sunday, 2 March 2008 02:29 (seventeen years ago)

Here's the link to the Patsy version.

And I'm not trying to imply that this is the lost "Lady Maramalade" or anything.

I'm would definitely bookmark a JBR mp3 blog. I still have all those versions of "Let It Be Me".

two months pass...

Google Maps has recently start showing the boundaries of areas when you search for them. I've discovered some awful looking blobs we call American cities and was thinking about compiling the ten worst for either a thread on here or a one-off tumblr.

There are all these little enclaves I keep seeing, so I'm searching around for any explanation for why these places look like this. I google "city limits" and come across a really cool flickr collection....

... and take a wild guess who's curating it. Probably could explain all the weird enclaves for me too.
