At Edgartown Pizza. Different everyday. Today: Grilled chicken breast, rice, baked beans, french fries, brazilian chicken salad(!!!). soooooo starchy good. such a big helping! must be fifty Brazilian guys chowing down in there at lunchtime. people order ten at a time for their crews. nobody even talks when they get to the counter. they just say how many they want. 2. 4. 6. it's like the pizza doesn't even exist!

i got no beef with the brazilians on the island, but i kinda wish they weren't all so church-y. there are no weirdos. there are two or three thousand brazilians here and there are, like, 12 brazilian churches!! i should go sometime though. they sing a lot. i watch them on MVI cable access.

in college i used to eat at this hole in the wall called carribean spice. they had no seats. only a fridge with slightly off brand sodas and pics of ladies in bikinis. for $1.50 you got 1 soda, 1 empanadilla (cheese or meat), one piece of coco (?) bread, and one slice/square of carrot/pumpkin/something cake. so badass.

i used to wonder how they survived. were drugs dealt out of the back of the place?

i would have starved without them and $1 krishna hot plate lunches. so ruling.

man, the look on my tighty christian pals faces the first time i drug them into the krishna food line. "memories!"

there are about two dozen places like this in my hometown. when i stopped into one on xmas eve there was a portugese dude with acoustic guitar lodged between the soda cooler and pulled back screened door doing we three kings. i got some fried yucca, sautéed squash and rolling papers for cheap.
