tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Saturday, 6 January 2007 03:19 (eighteen years ago)

not likely!!! unless i front as a shabbas goy. in which case they will give me several stale candies in a ziploc bag.

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 6 January 2007 03:29 (eighteen years ago)

But they will be kosher candies!

Laurel (Laurel), Saturday, 6 January 2007 03:32 (eighteen years ago)

Leftover from Purim, granted.

Laurel (Laurel), Saturday, 6 January 2007 03:33 (eighteen years ago)

they will definitely be kosher candies.

when we were sitting shiva for my grandmother last month somebody brought by a kosher pizza (the tradition is your friends & relatives bring you food) and biting into it i had a total hardcore proust-madeleine moment taking me back to hebrew school. i was trying to figure out what exactly about the taste of kosher pizza was so weirdly evocative

Shabbat Shalom is why

they are singing I mean

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Saturday, 6 January 2007 04:22 (eighteen years ago)

tonight they were especially loud though

or maybe i'm just not home that often on friday nights?

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 6 January 2007 05:07 (eighteen years ago)

I got free latkes and donuts from Hasidi, last month. Much better than leftover Purim candy.

when i was waiting in line for inland empire a bunch of those loco lubavitch versions drove buy in a caravan of many campers w/huge manoras on their roofs all honking and yelling abt happy haunaka and whatnot.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Saturday, 6 January 2007 16:36 (eighteen years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 6 January 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

hey did anyone else read about the eruv on manhattan? wtf! i had no idea you could do that!

underwater ghost ship picture (skowly), Saturday, 6 January 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

What area does it encompass (the WHOLE ISLAND??)? The theology behind the eruv just tickles me, it's ingenious.

Laurel (Laurel), Saturday, 6 January 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

there has been MAD controversy in my hood about that. (not the manhattan one)

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 6 January 2007 16:46 (eighteen years ago)

there was an article in Harper's about it....it encompasses something like 4,000 acres.

there was a big lawsuit about it here. the municipality tried to stop it.

s1ocki (slutsky), Saturday, 6 January 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

I don't understand why anyone would object to such a thing...? On other than halachic terms, natch. What the hell does a municipality care? I guess it means there will be uninsured people who don't necessarily have any physical training climbing around on poles every Friday afternoon, but that doesn't seem like a strong enough objection to counteract all the good it does.

Laurel (Laurel), Saturday, 6 January 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

I mean, presumably there are waivers and ways to make the municipality not culpable in the event of injury or something like that.

Laurel (Laurel), Saturday, 6 January 2007 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

i can understand not wanting those crazy motherfuckers to cast a spell on yr neighborhood.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Saturday, 6 January 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

At Sukkot there was aalways a truck playing crazy jewish dance music that would try to entice campus jews into the back to dance

laurel there is a lot of crypto- (and not-so-crypto-)racist sentiment in quebec, especially in ritzy outremont, and i suspect that's what was really at the bottom of it.
