hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 23:25 (eighteen years ago)

did stirmonster say somewhere that they might retire optimo at the end of the year? I really want to go, at least once. don't think either of 'em have DJed down here.

slackety yax (H2-H4), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 23:46 (eighteen years ago)

he said a while ago that there were 100 weeks left of Optimo on its usual night and in its usual space. this thread got me wondering how many were left. anybody know?

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 00:40 (eighteen years ago)

it would be cool if these ILXors posted on the Noyce Board

tony conrad schnitzler (sanskrit), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 02:30 (eighteen years ago)

based on the conversation over here last year it seems like there would be 40-something weeks left. I don't know if they're still planning to end it though. at any rate I'm going to Studio B for sure.

one of my resolutions this year is to go to optimo more often. i only went once last year.

-- grimly fiendish (simonmai...), January 12th, 2006. (grimlord)

be quick. only 97 optimos left to go to!

-- stirmonster (jd_*!!!!...), January 12th, 2006. (stirmonster)

How come - is it going to promotions heaven?

-- Why So? (hu...), January 12th, 2006.

indeed! end of an era in ... er, 97 weeks.

-- grimly fiendish (simonmai...), January 12th, 2006. (grimlord)

How come - is it going to promotions heaven?

we'll be ten years old then (if we last that long!). seems a good age to bow out on.

dmr (Renard), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 06:09 (eighteen years ago)

dmr (Renard), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 06:11 (eighteen years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 06:18 (eighteen years ago)

J. Middlestein (jergins), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 06:33 (eighteen years ago)

that essential mix is the business, btw

J. Middlestein (jergins), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 07:19 (eighteen years ago)

the table is the table (treesessplode), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

should be in the faq:

1. ALWAYS USE IMG SRC
2. NEVER LINK PIX FROM TRIPOD, THEY HAVE BLOCKED IMAGES SINCE LIKE 1998 OR SOMETHING

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

i dare say you can buy it online though.

just ordered one thru Shoptimo on their website, it says they have "very limited copies"

dmr (Renard), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 18:56 (eighteen years ago)

hstencil, that image is showing up on my browser... was that in reference to me?

the table is the table (treesessplode), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 19:11 (eighteen years ago)

yes, because no one else can see it. it's in your browser cache but tripod blocks hotlinking.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 19:14 (eighteen years ago)

oh. sorry noize brd.

the table is the table (treesessplode), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 19:59 (eighteen years ago)

no worries, just i'm sure it happens somewhere on ilx at least once a day.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 10 January 2007 20:04 (eighteen years ago)

anybody goin to see lindstrom 2 wkends before as well?

nervous (cochere), Tuesday, 16 January 2007 20:52 (eighteen years ago)

GEETA!

tony conrad schnitzler (sanskrit), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 04:05 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...
so they really are a lot more techno-ish now

which is cool w/ me, "bay of figs" sounded awesome on a loud system

but I kinda miss that element of the unexpected they had when it was more mixed up

in retrospect I'm glad I didn't drag along some marginally-into-dance-music friends thinking it would be How to Kill the DJ Part 2

dmr, Saturday, 24 February 2007 18:07 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, I thought that to (the part about not bringing someone because they'd be all about playing Can or whatever)

but those dudes were old-school techno rave type djs to begin with and I think it's always in the bag...when they played the glasshouse I specifically remember a long segment of the set that was pretty deep techno. Personally, I always love the Dinosaur/Bush Tetras stuff the most! The Sonic Youth accapella at the beginning was mind-blowing.

nice to meet you dave,

didn't see any other ilxors cept jayvee and geeta.

dan selzer, Saturday, 24 February 2007 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

so dan, do i need to wear a nametag tonight?

tehresa, Saturday, 24 February 2007 18:37 (eighteen years ago)

yeah good talking to you!

the SY thing was crazy

dmr, Saturday, 24 February 2007 18:49 (eighteen years ago)

i ended up not going, but i did run into keith and johnny at spuyten duyvil earlier in the evening. god i love those guys. super-duper bestest awesome bros ever.

hstencil, Saturday, 24 February 2007 20:07 (eighteen years ago)

apparently matt from rvng brought optimo to my dazzle ships party wednesday. also there: jayvee, bumrocks, lovefingers, morgan geist, stuart argabright, loud-e & tako. not there? me.

no nametags needed tonight. Just bring comfortable shoes and friends.

dan selzer, Saturday, 24 February 2007 21:28 (eighteen years ago)

who is going to Twitch and Sweeney at Gun Club in SF tonight?

Drew Daniel, Saturday, 24 February 2007 21:34 (eighteen years ago)

i went last year and had an okay time but good/great reports from LA have got me, jaxon and jaxon's wifey as highly probable.

have you called the # yet drew?

Steve Shasta, Saturday, 24 February 2007 22:35 (eighteen years ago)

tehresa, Saturday, 24 February 2007 22:50 (eighteen years ago)

Drew Daniel, Sunday, 25 February 2007 11:50 (eighteen years ago)

LOST: on the dancefloor during the Dan Selzer DJ set: one bell labs

tehresa, Sunday, 25 February 2007 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

i was at a rave

jaxon, Sunday, 25 February 2007 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

Dan, you were a champ despite being nearly an hour delayed by really boring band. Thanks for the beats.

Laurel, Sunday, 25 February 2007 21:38 (eighteen years ago)

so they really are a lot more techno-ish now

it really depends on the night, what was played before we went on, what the room is like etc. sometimes we play lots of techno, sometimes none. that nyc gig was actually a nightmare for us as one of the turntables kept switching off mid mix which had most of the crowd probably thinking we were doing the worst mixing ever and definitely killed the vibe and our flow. we were seriously depressed afterwards. but, to anyone who lasted the course (and there weren't many - you yanks seem to like to get to your beds early) i did play can, jacques dutronc, etta james, cristina etc. and we started with 'shaking hell' by sonic youth and had cynthia sley of the bush tetras dancing to her own record!

the highlight of our night was randomly bumping into hstencil earlier in the evening and drinking bourbon after it finished with jay vee.

i would very much have liked to meet drew in sf to tell him how much he rocks!

stirmonster, Saturday, 3 March 2007 20:08 (eighteen years ago)

it's true, I have only seen you guys dj twice so I shouldn't really compare the two times and say "now they are [x]"

anyway we had a great time

I didn't really notice any tech problems, it was worse for Lindstrom a couple weeks before

the sonic youth bit was great

thx for a good party!~

dmr, Saturday, 3 March 2007 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

i would very much have liked to meet drew in sf to tell him how much he rocks! to come to glasgow and play at optimo.

dmr, Tuesday, 6 January 2009 15:45 (sixteen years ago)

I haven't been yet. When it opened it was mostly a mix of experimental and more "adult-contemporary" for the new yorker set kinda scene, but now Justine D.'s booking as well, so there's that. Seems like it could end up a pretty cool place for cross-pollination of musical scenes or whatnot.

dan selzer, Tuesday, 6 January 2009 16:32 (sixteen years ago)

having been to LPR only once for Matmos, I wd bet it's nice if you get there early enough to get a seat.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 6 January 2009 16:35 (sixteen years ago)

hey sic, nah not going to Racket. need a night off before next few weeks of festival activity :)

dugong.jpg (jabba hands), Friday, 9 January 2009 01:34 (sixteen years ago)

i liked le poisson rouge when we were there for matmos. lil sis will be in town that weekend and we're seeing a matinee of orfeo, i think she might really like an esg nightcap.
