Zevon's okay, but why did you post a picture of Dave Mustaine?

maybe you like yr coked-out '70s El Lay session wizards smoother, but "desperados under the eaves" is a jam.

nilsson is awesome, but i think a noize dude should approach warren zevon with an open mind

i've given the self titled album from 76 numerous tries and just can't get into him. i think i mighta liked one track

jaxon (jaxon), Monday, 15 January 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

I tried Zevon, but nothing stuck. Although he did duet with our former gov., so MN pride really ought to push me the other way.

Sentimental Hygeine is really good. Fans of insane late-'80s synth-heavy cyberpunk bandwagoning would like Transverse City.

As i said, if you like early-'70s session wizardry, there is some great stuff on the first two (s/t and Excitable Boy), tho the jokey stuff has not aged well (exception: "roland the headless thompson gunner")

werewolves of london is a good bar jukebox track after two or three drinks, but i don't really like him in other contexts.

i think a noize dude should approach warren zevon with an open mind

transverse city is atypical WZ and sorta interesting in a wtf way otherwise he's like a macho jackson browne

m coleman (lovebug starski), Monday, 15 January 2007 23:56 (eighteen years ago)

i LOVED LOVED LOVED this story on warren's time in philly. came out in 2002 in the philadelphia weekly. even if you aren't a fan it's highly entertaining:

whoa scott that zevon article is food for thought. at first I thought it was gonna be all behind the music kinda stuff but his old girlfriend really bared her soul at the end. wonder if she ever spoke to him again? have to catch my breath before the Bowie.

on the lighter side, this quote was horrifying in an LOL way.

Michael Tearson, then a well-known on-air personality at WMMR, remembers Gevinson well. the two dated briefly, he says. "She was a sharp lookin' babe with a prodigious pair of breasts and a sharp mouth," he says. "I was one piece of ass she never did nail."

it's too bad you can't still see the pictures in the bowie piece. they were great.

I'm a huge Zevon fan; I was just telling Matos the other night that the self-titled record is my fave California-rock disc ever.

I walked past Lee Ho Fook's Chinese restaurant in Soho yesterday. There's a big caricature drawing of Warren in the window.
