how do we feel about biscuits that come in a tube issue?

acid waffle house (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 16:34 (eighteen years ago)

i love them! not like a proper biscuit, but rather their own delicious category.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 16:34 (eighteen years ago)

biscuits & sausage gravy was the best thing in the world during basic. I have no idea how to even start making decent sausage gravy the way I like it so every time I'm stuck back in The South for whatever reason I try to seek it out. I recall the Homestead does it pretty good too.

that place is SO good. i don't think people believe how good it is until they go there and then it's all they want to eat. unfortunately, i've lost ~ 5lbs since dec and i'm almost positive it's due to avoiding p&t.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 16:43 (eighteen years ago)

(mp, enjoy this kind of thing while you can because london can be rough culinary going. i don't care what anyone says.)

kingfish prætor (kingfish 2.0), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

trust me, i'm caning those tim horton's breakfast sandwiches whenever i can. also, i'm under no illusions about london's relative culinary weaknesses. like, how long is it going to be until i have decent mexican again?

m@p (plosive), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

My great-grandma used to spit in her biscuit batter, she called them "spit biscuits".

I make milk gravy with bacon fat/chunks instead of sausage a lot.

baron kickass von awesomehausen (nickalicious), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

your great grandmother sounds like a filthy woman.

m@p (plosive), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 17:00 (eighteen years ago)

also, if you think about it, that's kind of the reverse of chewing your biscuit into a paste and spreading it between two intact biscuits

m@p (plosive), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 17:02 (eighteen years ago)

pies n' thighs is great, yes.

and what (ooo), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 17:18 (eighteen years ago)

i enjoy eating gravy but the thought of making it freaks me out for some reason.

its kind of like mayonnaise. if i think about the process too much i get all psyched out.

1. Pillsbury frozen biscuits are as good as anybody's momma ever made, seriously. Some food scientist is my hero for developing those things.

2. Biscuits & gravy = solid biscuit topped with liquid biscuit (+ sausage).

3. Great thing to do with canned biscuits & leftover beef stew/cowboy stew/potpie filling/whatever thick and savory. Roll the biscuits out to about 1/2", tuck them down into muffin tins and press them in a bit to make a bowl, spoon in about 1/2 cup of filling, add some grated cheese on top, bake the normal amount of biscuit-time. Out come little perfect popovery baked cups of yum.

t/s: round biscuits v. drop biscuits

i favor the latter, if only because my grandmother made them. Usually accompanying a heaping bowl of beef stew. OH GOD yes, so good.

oh i am so hungry for biscuits now. with butter on them.

i hadn't even heard of 'milk gravy' before today!

and i have no doubt the tim horton's bisquit sandwich is addictive. is there cheese cooked into the biscuit?? b/c if there is cheese... i mean, it'd better come with a 12-step recovery program.

rrrobyn, breeze blown meadow of cheeriness (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

tim horton's breakfast sandwich = buttery-tasting warm biscuit with egg, melted cheddar cheese and your choice of bacon or a slightly peppery sausage

IT IS SO GOOD

Also, Red Lobster's cheddar garlic biscuits are gooood. They probably save loads of money on people who can't stop gobbling those things up and can't go for thirds on Endless Shrimp.

Oops, I just admitted I go to Red Lobster.

there's an awesome pork bun place on bayard street. i can't recall the name, its a dumpy little coffee shop.

wifey (almost) ruined pork buns for me because she would open them up and expose all the fat chunks. you're not supposed to look inside.

Biscuits + sausage gravy = surprisingly easy to make!

I mean, there are surely hidden secrets to getting the gravy to perfect skilled southern perfection, but I have made sausage gravy starting from just frozen Jimmy Dean sausage patties and STILL had it come out perfectly great.
