i had mine from 1997 up until last year when my parents cancelled their AOL account

it was weird having people from the old AOL SPIN chatroom still on my buddy list.

GULLIBLE (Mandee), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 05:02 (eighteen years ago)

what was pure comedy gold was someone used to go into the SPIN chatroom and pretend to be billy corgan..................................... and we believed it!!!!

GULLIBLE (Mandee), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 05:03 (eighteen years ago)

My ICQ number is a six digit one. I got it in 1996-97. I forget what it is now tho.

am0n (am0n), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 05:08 (eighteen years ago)

prodigy first, where i played that crazy maze game that gave you riddles and math probems. i liked to read the joek forums because they were funny and every so vaguely risque.

be home by 11 (orion), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 05:12 (eighteen years ago)

i don't remember my ICQ number, fwiw. nor my number on compuserv.

be home by 11 (orion), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 05:12 (eighteen years ago)

yeah i haven't used this since 2000 or something but it was a 6-digit number and i got it in the kinder, gentler days of 1997, when a goddamn loaf of bread cost a nickel

ath (ath), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 05:12 (eighteen years ago)

I have no idea what my ICQ # was, I got it in like 1998 right before I got AIM

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 7 February 2007 05:14 (eighteen years ago)

dude do guys remember the dungeon crawl game on The Sierra Netowrk!?@?@!/

UART variations (ex machina), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 05:20 (eighteen years ago)

still miss L.O.R.D.

GULLIBLE (Mandee), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 05:33 (eighteen years ago)

yeah jon, quest for yserbius or something?

be home by 11 (orion), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 05:51 (eighteen years ago)

there was a sequel too... or maybe that one was the sequel? it was kind of a decent game. i have fond memories of dungeon trawling games. like DUNGEON HACK by TSR, and THE BARD'S TALE, etc.

be home by 11 (orion), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 05:52 (eighteen years ago)

I've been thinking about making a game like the bard's tale but with a nethack type generated dungeon

although nethack would be impossible without mapview i think

Charmmy Kitty's Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (ex machina), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 06:01 (eighteen years ago)

well, you could have it a built in function of the game to create a map of locations visited.

be home by 11 (orion), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 06:05 (eighteen years ago)

(like playing MUDs and using an automapper.)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MUD_trees

be home by 11 (orion), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 06:07 (eighteen years ago)

yea, but that defeats the point of having a first person view mostly?

i remmeber some of those games had different automapping based on items and light darkness

Charmmy Kitty's Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (ex machina), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 06:10 (eighteen years ago)

the point of having a first person view is to APPEAL TO ADOLESCENTS WITH PRETTY SHINY PICTURES.

be home by 11 (orion), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 06:16 (eighteen years ago)

would your game have a system for skills and specialties? it could be possible for certain types of characters to have the cartography skill.

be home by 11 (orion), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 06:17 (eighteen years ago)

Accursed Lands (AL) is a free MUD that has been online since 1996. It was founded by six former DartMUD associates (5 creators and 1 long-time player) who wanted to make a new mud in Dartmud's image with a more flexible codebase. Over time it acquired a theme and vision of its own, but it still retains many of the characteristics and some of the fundamental philosophy of its parent mud. It runs on the MudOS driver and uses a highly modifed Lima Mudlib.

AL is virtually all original. Its theme could best be described as low-fantasy gothic horror set in a post-apocalyptic world with a dark-ages level of technology.
