I take Gearhound for a huge breakthrough record -- it was always filed in techno / electronic when it should have been filed in rock or metal -- the record's a raging fucked up assault, it just does not let up at all -- until near the end when he throws down the strongest tracks.

So while he always gets mentioned in techno circles by people who are most likely not going to be into it, he's yet to be discovered by people who grew up on Metallica and looking for some next-level grade A fucked up rock (in San Diego one of his main groups was a Metallica cover band called Creeping Death)

most of what i've heard i liked... although, i'm thinking the remixes i remember were junior varsity km and the locust.

I remember him seeming sort of sub-brad laner back when I used to buy $150+ worth of Forced Exposure new releases each month. I had the kid606 split from way back in the day, sold it a month or so back and was going to rip "adios amen" off of his side to the computer when I took a listen and realized it sounded badly dated and "clever" in the lame sense of the word.

But yeah my negative opinions are based on a. only knowing about things he did prior to 2001 and also b. currently hating 99% of the IDM stuff I listened to and invested in prior to 2001

This was also me, but I finally got round to checking out Gearhound. Straight up amazing album. A rare double with no filler.
