Hm, I add anyone (who requests an add) on last.fm who seems to have similar tastes so I can follow them should they drift out of my neighborhood. I guess I think of it more as music taste networking than social networking. Any other online community gets the scrutiny.

Harptallica started in early 2006 when Ashley Toman a grad student at the Eastman School of Music decided to arrange one Metallica song "Fade to Black" for two harps. Somehow this turned into 10 Metallica Songs and a CD which they are recorded in November. The CD titled "Harptallica" will contain songs from "Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice for All, and Metallica." Right now the album layout and graphics are being designed by the lovely Patricia Kline. After that, they hope to get it signed to a label.

oh shit! they were in my class! i didn't recognize because apparently she has a married name!

what i remember:
ashley: she was weird, from michigan/detroit(?), had overbleached/proccesed blonde hair, rich parents (lived off campus rly early and drove fancy suv), other harpists didn't really seem to take her seriously.

patty: really quiet, but very nice and i always thought she seemed pretty fucking awesome.

added bonus: they both used to go all out for halloween every year. ashley was weird, but the shocker was that patty was esp. conservative/hippy most of the time, but on halloween usually ho'd out and gothy.

At Eastman, Ashley was first introduced to Metallica briefly, by a teacher who played it during theory class.

my guess is this was c1ro sc0tt0, theory prof w/ long flowing wavy salt and pepper hair (think ragget + grays) who taught 20th c. my ta (jw u know who this is) thought he was a quack and taught us actual 20th c. theory in our sections (this helped since the tas (read: my ta) wrote the exams). prof was rumored to have taken a year off to sit in his basement playing metallica songs on guitar, which he hoped to turn into a performance of guitar + orchestra. this was sadly ill-thoughtout because i think at that point metallica had already done their whole s&m thing.
