Much like throwing oneself off the subway platform, has anyone ever gave a thought to succumbing to the pounding surf, the warmth of a snowback or just to fall under the burning sun?

i think it would be much harder to drown myself than throw myself in front of a train. i'm sure sure what you mean by "to fall under the burning sun" though.

hypothermia is supposed to be euphoric; i have not heard this about sunstroke or dehydration

Not so much drown yourself so much as not bother to fight to the surface from bad undertow....
