artdamages (artdamages), Friday, 3 September 2004 15:10 (twenty years ago)

My absolute favorite song is "ALIEN BOY". Nothing else comes close.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 3 September 2004 15:14 (twenty years ago)

the reality is that it is hard for me to choose up to and including the third album (after that it starts to get spotty qualitywise). the wipers are the only great band portland has ever produced.

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 3 September 2004 15:16 (twenty years ago)

you mean, besides quarterflash?

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 3 September 2004 15:23 (twenty years ago)

no, nu shooz and the dan reed network

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 3 September 2004 15:24 (twenty years ago)

quarterflash, the band formerly known as Seafood Mama before they "sold out"

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 3 September 2004 15:25 (twenty years ago)

speaking of real great bands, how could I have forgotten the Kingsmen?

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 3 September 2004 15:27 (twenty years ago)

yeah, i was gonna say!

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 3 September 2004 15:28 (twenty years ago)

some might also add paul revere and the raiders, but i wouldn't

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 3 September 2004 15:29 (twenty years ago)

hello. I would say "Romeo", because that was the 45 in the Satyricon jukebox

mayo apetrain (mayoape), Friday, 3 September 2004 15:55 (twenty years ago)

Gygax, you only love Alien Boy because Malkmus covers it live!!!

dean? (deangulberry), Friday, 3 September 2004 15:57 (twenty years ago)

He does do a pretty good (uh... straight) cover of it, but no, I'd heard the original about 12 years prior during the first Wipers revival.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 3 September 2004 16:04 (twenty years ago)

I should mention here that Jack Cole spent the summer of '95 following Quaterflash on their state fair circuit, selling chili dogs out of the back of his Geo Metro for gas money.

mayo apetrain (mayoape), Friday, 3 September 2004 16:15 (twenty years ago)

I had an old roommate who was a massive Wipers fan. We are talking compulsively-play-Is This Real-once-per-day type fan. So I heard that album quite a bit. And good on him! Because they are great. I'll pick "Up Front".

Reed Moore (diamond), Friday, 3 September 2004 16:28 (twenty years ago)

all those chili dogs will not only harden your heart, but harden your areteries as well.

gygax hamburger! (gygax!), Friday, 3 September 2004 16:30 (twenty years ago)

from the 3 songs I've heard, the Neo Boys were fantastic.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 3 September 2004 16:42 (twenty years ago)

2 Corrections:

1. Corndogs, not chili dogs
2. Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts, Oregon's Favorite Oldies Band

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 3 September 2004 17:08 (twenty years ago)

"Taking Too Long"
"Over The Edge"
"Youth Of America"

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 4 August 2006 17:19 (eighteen years ago)

two weeks pass...
Song-wise, that's tough. Album-wise, gonna have to go with Over the Edge (which has got to be the genesis of Hot Snakes).

paid in cigarettes (paid in cigarettes), Friday, 18 August 2006 22:29 (eighteen years ago)

OH MAN I FUCKIN' LOVE THE WIPERS WHY COME I DIDN'T SEE THIS THREAD BEFORE

OVER THE EDGE, WHEN ITS OVER, NO SOLUTION, UP FRONT, NOW IS THE TIME, DOOM TOWN, YOUTH OF AMERICA, MYSTERY, ROMEO, CAN THIS BE

they ruled harder and better then pretty much 94% of all other rock bands. i also really truly liked the hot snakes for being such a dedicated wipers cover band

I'm gonna pick "The Search" from the not-as-popular Land of the Lost.
