otherwise that shit is BALEETED.****

**** I have been drinking.

jessie monster, Sunday, 18 March 2007 00:45 (eighteen years ago)

"Fido, your leash is too long" is pretty awesome.

Also, hooray for drinking!

John Justen, Sunday, 18 March 2007 01:02 (eighteen years ago)

I NEED MORE BOOZE.

I like "Queen of the Savages" okay. I think I downloaded it in a fit of Boston solidarity though, which isn't a very good reason.

jessie monster, Sunday, 18 March 2007 01:05 (eighteen years ago)

Not sure I should be trusted anyway, I just listened to "The Logical Song" - Supertramp. BY CHOICE.

John Justen, Sunday, 18 March 2007 01:19 (eighteen years ago)

long forgotten fairytale should be in every karaoke bar on the face of the planet.

g®▲Ðұ, Sunday, 18 March 2007 02:08 (eighteen years ago)

fuck a 69 lovesongs. there were a few okay songs on that first volume when i was like 17 or whatever, but srsly... i dunno, man.

ian, Sunday, 18 March 2007 03:57 (eighteen years ago)

they are good to hear once cuz it's like hahaha that's a lot of love songs in (not so) different (really) styles but if you play them over again yoo turn into liminy snerket and all yer friends will say oh my god is she/he actually wearing suspenders?

scott seward, Sunday, 18 March 2007 04:17 (eighteen years ago)

Jessie, I like a lot of that set, even tho at the same time I think that tour is when I went from liking MF to thinking they were totally up their own asses w/r/t the adulation of their fans. I'm very fond of "Papa Was a Rodeo" and "The Book of Love" and lots of those songs. So yeah, they're mostly unpolished snippets, but I think there's enough good, sweet work there to justify the album's existence.

Laurel, Sunday, 18 March 2007 04:28 (eighteen years ago)

you should just winnow it down to like... 9 love songs.

s1ocki, Sunday, 18 March 2007 05:32 (eighteen years ago)

chicken with its head cut off

forksclovetofu, Sunday, 18 March 2007 06:34 (eighteen years ago)

Jessie, I deleted this album off my hard drive and realized I really wanted to listen to it a few weeks later. Don't do it.

Curt1s Stephens, Sunday, 18 March 2007 06:42 (eighteen years ago)

(though I'm pretty sure none of the songs are as good as "I Thought You Were My Boyfriend")

Curt1s Stephens, Sunday, 18 March 2007 06:48 (eighteen years ago)

booo delete that shit.

jaymc, Sunday, 18 March 2007 06:50 (eighteen years ago)

its ok to have just don't listen to it more than once in a while

latebloomer, Sunday, 18 March 2007 06:56 (eighteen years ago)

meaningless, you mean it's all been meaningless
every whisper and caress
yes yes yes it was totally meaningless.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 18 March 2007 07:45 (eighteen years ago)

papa was a rodeo is a good song yeah, plus some others
i haven't listened to this in yeeaarrs but i did pull out charm of the hwy strip a couple weeks ago and it was pretty good; i was in that mood. there's some really nice stuff on wayward bus/... but yeah, 69 love songs... i cannot get rid of it tho, partly for nostalgic reasons obv

rrrobyn, Sunday, 18 March 2007 07:49 (eighteen years ago)

just keep luckiest guy on the lower east side

jergincito, Sunday, 18 March 2007 13:23 (eighteen years ago)

its pretty much a really good greeting card. once you've snickered along with it or felt a touch touched, its about ready for the recycling bin. its very smart songwriting, but smart only goes so for in this game.

it makes complete sense to me that hes now doing showtuney stuff. showtunes are clever and pointed, but barely music of depth and regularly effective merrit.

bb, Sunday, 18 March 2007 14:22 (eighteen years ago)

"charm..." was much better... never liked 69 wuvsongs tbh

nathalie, Sunday, 18 March 2007 14:24 (eighteen years ago)

aww you guys reminded me of all 10 or so good songs on this album. That said, I have seriously never listened to the whole thing at once, I always get bored about 25 love songs in. I think I will just institute a BALEET policy whenever something comes up on random and I am all "wtf why do I have this."

NOIZE BORED: PROBLEM-SOLVING FOR U AND ME.

jessie monster, Sunday, 18 March 2007 15:20 (eighteen years ago)

i saw fuck this dude for losing the synths and bringing in the banjos and jugs and what nots.

s1ocki, Sunday, 18 March 2007 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

my favorite is "i dont want to get over you"

bell_labs, Sunday, 18 March 2007 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

100,000,000 fireflies is the only jam i need

artdamages, Sunday, 18 March 2007 19:04 (eighteen years ago)

OH WOW I CAN'T BELIEVE I WENT TO DINNER AND WATCHED MOVIES WHEN I COULD HAVE BEEN READING THIS.

JW, Sunday, 18 March 2007 19:16 (eighteen years ago)

sounds like somebody needs a nap!

jessie monster, Sunday, 18 March 2007 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

or possibly a cheery stephen merritt tune!

jessie monster, Sunday, 18 March 2007 19:46 (eighteen years ago)

okay, so roomie sara has this on her itunes, and here are the songs that i like:
-no one will ever love you
-papa was rodeo
-two kinds of people
-queen of the savages
Upon re-listening, I didn't want to listen to the entirety of a single song from volume 1. wtf.

song with by FAR the highest playcount? "i thought you were my boyfriend." (not from 69 love songs.)

ian, Monday, 19 March 2007 01:47 (eighteen years ago)

i like charm of the highway strip but it needs to have two fewer songs about vampires

ghost rider, Monday, 19 March 2007 01:56 (eighteen years ago)

TO BE FAIR:

I enjoy having one of these come up on random while chillin on the L

JW, Monday, 19 March 2007 02:21 (eighteen years ago)

"queen of the savages" is my favorite by a long shot

jessie monster, Monday, 19 March 2007 02:29 (eighteen years ago)

i listened to "charm of the highway strip," "get lost" and "holiday" end to end this afternoon inspired by this thread. "strange powers" is still my favorite mf song.

bell_labs, Monday, 19 March 2007 02:50 (eighteen years ago)

100,000,000 fireflies is the only jam i need

artdamages on Sunday, 18 March 2007 19:04 (Yesterday)

rrrobyn, Monday, 19 March 2007 03:10 (eighteen years ago)

rrrobyn, Monday, 19 March 2007 03:15 (eighteen years ago)

i think charm of the highway strip is my favourite s merritt album. or the first 6ths.

s1ocki, Monday, 19 March 2007 04:48 (eighteen years ago)

I like that one 6ths song that was on Pete & Pete

Curt1s Stephens, Monday, 19 March 2007 04:53 (eighteen years ago)

strange powers is the best

dmr, Monday, 19 March 2007 04:59 (eighteen years ago)

I really love "Save a Secret for the Moon" very much, and I've been the most into Get Lost since I picked it up again last summer, but I spose Holiday is next-fave.

Laurel, Monday, 19 March 2007 05:58 (eighteen years ago)

long vermont roads

jergincito, Monday, 19 March 2007 10:20 (eighteen years ago)

The version of Take Ecstasy With Me with pretty-voice girl on vocals is so so so good. I don't own 69ls, just listen to the songs I like when I find it in other people's collections.

clotpoll, Monday, 19 March 2007 10:33 (eighteen years ago)

Take Ecstasy With Me, BBC Radiophonic Workshop, In My Secret Place, I Thought You Were My Boyfriend = keepers. Also, they're not on 69LS.

Someone please to YSI the NRG club v. gay remix of I Thought You Were My Boyfriend they played over the tannoy instead of doing a second encore when I saw them ("extended mix"? "dub mix"?)

caek, Friday, 23 March 2007 03:12 (eighteen years ago)

I am converting the Extended Mix to mp3 right now caek (there is also a Dub Mix)

Curt1s Stephens, Friday, 23 March 2007 03:30 (eighteen years ago)
