g®▲Ðұ, Sunday, 25 March 2007 04:39 (eighteen years ago)

some dude with a blog posted some live tracks including the sonicyouth into the hidden under the balcony lightningbolt show from irving plaza a coule years ago. one of the more awesome rock moments ive experienced. im sure the audio wont really convey the utter confusion and panic in the room (soulded like the place was going to collapse), but...

havent listened but will post them when i go to work tomorrow (dont have them here)

bb, Sunday, 25 March 2007 12:24 (eighteen years ago)

they playing an afternoon show today but I'm sick. blech.

guys i've never seen lightning bolt before either ;_;

river wolf, Sunday, 25 March 2007 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightning_Bolt

"The song "Dracula Mountain" has been covered live by the U.K. rock band Muse. Muse has namechecked Lightning Bolt in interviews [1], but with clearly limited knowledge of both geography (describing Lightning Bolt as being from Boston) and music terminology (referring to the band as "skronk"). The cover is a much lower tempo and has a number of wrong notes."

TS: Muse covering Lightning Bolt vs. Complaining about "wrong notes" in a Lightning Bolt cover.

caek, Sunday, 25 March 2007 16:03 (eighteen years ago)

dude, have you heard the cover??? it's atrocious (and hilarious)

(used to be posted on LB's website)

river wolf, Sunday, 25 March 2007 16:19 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, it's linked from Wikipedia: http://www.laserbeast.com/mp3s/Muse_-_Dracula_Mountain.mp3

It certainly is appalling.

caek, Sunday, 25 March 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

TS: Muse covering Lightning Bolt vs. Complaining about "wrong notes" in a Lightning Bolt cover.

haha guess who wrote that? (I have to keep on reverting it because muse fans are insane!)

JW, Sunday, 25 March 2007 19:08 (eighteen years ago)

well I got there and there were fire trucks and a mass exodus of whiteys down Morgan ave. bummer

BLASTOCYST, Sunday, 25 March 2007 21:31 (eighteen years ago)

Woah. I didn't realise that Jon, no offence intended.

The Muse cover, and their fans, are indefensible, sure. But I don't see the point in getting precious about the integrity of a cover version of anything, let alone a song by a noise band who have probably never played that song live without several wrong notes themselves. I'd take that out, because it makes the bullet point too obviously fanboy, but leave in the bit about them thinking LB are from Boston, because that's just retarded.

caek, Sunday, 25 March 2007 21:43 (eighteen years ago)

wow that was the shittiest anything that i've ever heard

i saw them once and it was pretty kewl imo, tho u can just download the dvd for roughly the same experience~

OTM, if yr tv's speaker output is on par w/ a jet engine and yr living room's packed with an undulating mob of human flesh. otherwise go see them live.

bb, Monday, 26 March 2007 14:29 (eighteen years ago)

I did see Wizzards or whatever they were called though, very fun.

nickalicious, Monday, 26 March 2007 18:58 (eighteen years ago)

I've never seen them because they play on the floor and I'm more of a back-of-the-room showgoing type.
I have heard them, though.

rrrobyn, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 17:06 (eighteen years ago)

really? cuz I listened to the album and I wasn't feeling it. maybe they're better live? the record sounds like they have all the right pedals on all the right settings but in fact they are accountants.

gibby haynes was an accountant, tho, so maybe I should just shut up.

Edward III, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

oh, live is different, yeah - i have only seen them once though, and it was v loud, more drone/distortion
haha, i don't think any of them are accountants, but they are pretty with-it for being california dudes who play stonerdronemetalrock (?)
