POLYAMORY UPDATE – September 2004
Howdy folks. Lots of information and some new stuff on the horizon for your autumnal La-Z-Boy / opium haze needs. The website has been partially updated but the most current info is below.
IMPORTANT: Please note new address. Any orders going to NYC will not reach us until December. As always, Paypal is preferred, anyway.
IMPORTANT: While CDR prices will remain $8 ppd in the US ($5.25 wholesale), we’ve had to raise the cost of tapes a buck to $6 ($3.25 wholesale) in light of increased costs for supplies. Sorry. But we have two new CDRs and two new cassettes for sale, and we’re offering a deal if you buy all four - $25 for the batch. So you’re getting the old tape price and still saving a buck on top of that. Sound good?
IMPORTANT: These titles are not available yet (release dates listed below) but we encourage you to pre-order because a) supplies will be more limited than usual, and b) we need the money to finish putting some of these together. With one of us having recently relocated down South, and the other about to be hitched, we are both, as they say on the shores of Staten Island, “broke ass.”
But fear not, Polyamory has always prided itself on being a label you can rely on, a shoulder you can cry on, so we can be counted on to deliver the goods to you the second they’re ready to go.
So order now!
Without further ado:
EARLY OCTOBER:
EGO PLUMMET – “No Shoes” CDR
Historic one-time only live collaboration between Kentucky / Brooklyn gravehole climbers Virgin Eye Blood Brothers (my favorite live band of 2004), New England purveyors of the hum scum Son of Earth, and NYC / Knoxville TN’s depraved criminal conglomerate Wooden Wand & The Vanishing Voice. Recorded by Aaron Rosenblum of Son of Earth, this mind-melting session took place at a yoga studio in Indiana – barefoot, wasted, and enveloped by dark shadows.
WOODEN WAND – “Harem of the Sundrum” cs
Unique mixes of 3 proper ‘songs’ culled from the upcoming solo LP. Strictly limited to 60 copies, Harem of the Sundrum was recorded entirely solo during the last weeks of living in NYC, and written during a brief stay in Los Angeles.
MID NOVEMBER:
DOUBLE LEOPARDS “tba” CDR
The long promised cassette by Brooklyn’s finest will now be a CDR release. Currently in the remixing stage, this release is said to feature recordings of early, pre-Religious Knives Double Leopards stuff, with extra stuff tacked on. If the finished copy is 10% as heavy as the tape I heard, people will be talking about this one for years.
HEIRCRAFT TOTEM & THE KANTEBURY CHORUS – “September 1-4, 2004” cs
Heircraft Totem is a new project featuring WWVV’s Satya Sai Scuppety and Wooden Wand. On the first night in their new house, they were awoken to a beautiful, inexplicably rhythmic choir of various crickets and locusts outside their bedroom window. As New Yorkers, they were unaccustomed to the silence that provided these creatures such a still palette on which to get their yas out. Some of it sounded like the quiet stuff on the last Hair Police record (well, ALMOST as good as that). Anyway, they did the logical thing and recorded it for many hours over four nights, then lied in bed in the dark with a microphone apiece and hummed, mumbled and sang along. The results were then processed, chopped and screwed, but the only sound sources used were insects and human voices. The first of many, and strictly limited to 60 copies.
ON THE HORIZON (do NOT pre-order these!):
Toves and I are still planning a giant ten-year Polyamory retrospective for early 2006. The best laid plan at this point is double vinyl, gatefold sleeves, and liner notes galore. Pending approval, we hope to include some of our favorite stuff going back to the first cassettes, and hope to feature a good deal of out of print material. Again, we may be calling on some of you to help bankroll this by pre-ordering and possibly donating to the cause (with the promise of records, of course) when the time comes, but for now, stay tuned.
Also, we haven’t asked them yet, but by the end of the year, we’d like to release something by Leannon Sith and / or Clay Ruby (all of Davenport), or see if we can’t convince the entire multi-talented crew to put together one of those long-promised Davenport Family CDRs for us to release, spotlighting the entire extended snakepit.
In addition, tons of ‘legit’ Wooden Wand & The Vanishing Voice releases are planned for the first half of 2005. The Buck Dharma double LP on Time Lag and the Sunset Sleeves LP on Weird Forest should both be available soon. We also have ‘official’ releases due on Chondritic Sound, Three Lobed Recordings, and Gold Soundz.
We’ll also have limited run releases on Nature Tape Limb Tape Library, Fuckit Tapes, Imvated, and Digitalis Industries.
We’ll also be continuing issuing super-limited cassettes on our own WWVV label – Folk Audio Tapes Vol.2 should be around soon, as well as a Bill Nace solo cassette by Spring.
The WWVV website ought to be updated soon, but at this time, all four tour-only releases on WWVV are out of print and unavailable. FYI, they were:
WWVV#1 – Folk Audio Tapes
WWVV#2 – Noise At The Diehl’s (Heidi solo with family members)
WWVV#3 – Vanishing (Heidi and Glucose, each tape a different recording)
WWVV#4 – Voice (Steven the Harvester and Glucose, each tape a different recording)
In addition, the Live @ Pasture CDR on 23 Productions is also sold out.
We appreciate your ear(s),
James and Tovah
