He lives in Berkeley and wrote this sickening essay about how Berkeley is "the most enraptured city in America" because you can go see movie at the pfa or buy organic tomato at berkeley bowl or study science at Cal. He didn't mention the ninja cults or the gang violence or the smug old white people who lack social graces or the smelly self-righteous hippy girls.

I like living in Berkeley though.

Apparently, his presence accounted for the young, out-of-place looking types at the Y last night when I went to pick up my stuff at the gym. Also, I've been unaware about him other than generally knowing the name, but this book sounds pretty interesting. Also, I would like to live in Berkeley.

i like chabon's stuff, as smug and self-satisfied as it can sometimes get. i like baseball and comic books and jews and he does too, and plus he's from pittsburgh and so are my grandparents. the final solution is his best so far, I think.

Which Y? I've been to two in the last 24 hours. Did you see me?

It is actually nice to live in Berkeley, if you like food and movies and books, and you're not big into bars or parking.

xp

i think i've disliked the guy since i read an interview with him where he described his earlier, shorter novels as "slim, elegant volumes"
