I fell in love with a hippie from Ithaca named Brie, 1997. We ate "nice krispie treats" and I circular breathed while saxaphoning for like 5 minutes, and never figured out how to do it again.

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 19:25 (eighteen years ago)

fuck one ithaca is gorges t-shirt not in fucking emerald green.

otherwise: jon, i have all yr answers..though i havent been back in 3 yrs...and hear scary things have happened..(chainstores opening, great old places shutting)...

ithaca in summer can be hot as hell, but when you have a gorge always 20 minutes away to go flop in...its no heat at all.

i once had a total freakout at grassroots and had to hang out far off at the edge of the field and listen to smileysmile on my discman...hippie central. bad hippy central

there are still great hippies there, like doug yule.

bb, Wednesday, 16 May 2007 20:42 (eighteen years ago)

69, Saturday, 27 October 2007 14:12 (eighteen years ago)

romantic rest...err..no..but theres a place on the top endof the commons that has decent foood..place to eat is maxies superclub, though...havent been in town in ages..but its all about walk this time of year...wander through gorges...hit wineries, as its just past harvest and could be some fun stuff...just chill out..thats what the town is best for...lok for records inthe basement of the big bookstoreon the commons...

moosewood is kinda crap..better off making it at home...food must: hottruck...i think hes back on west campus on weekend nights, if not you can get it at shortstop deli dwntwn...

omar little, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:00 (seventeen years ago)

hahahahahahahahahaaa...

completetly fergot about that place

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 19:43 (seventeen years ago)

i remember one time i went there and the lights came up and this friend of mine was sitting in a corner making out with this cyrano de bergerac lookin girl and he had to keep his head at a weird angle to maintain :-\

omar little, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:07 (seventeen years ago)

i never went in...was on college ave, right? i was in dino's once..think its gone too

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:15 (seventeen years ago)

oh wow

remy bean, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:16 (seventeen years ago)

was it on college? i dunno, it was whatever went west straight out of the commons. that diner was across the street.

when i lived there i lived right above fisherman's grill on aurora st. those dbags who would go to micawber's always hung out on the sidewalk right below my window getting pizza from that ny place. one time my neighbors got pissed and shot a bottle rocket down into the crowd, which ending up leading to their eviction pretty quickly.

omar little, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:27 (seventeen years ago)

What was the name of the place in Ithaca where the bands would play? Ok, that's vague. I mean - the place where I might have driven and hour out of my way to go see shows at? I can't remember the name of this place and it's killing me. grrrrr.

ENBB, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:30 (seventeen years ago)

was it a bar near the commons? or a place near the water? i don't remember the names, either... ;_;

omar little, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:33 (seventeen years ago)

mcawbers: 25 cent pints between 5 & 5:30 on weekdays...one pint at a time..after happyhour that place blew. id imagine some shitty late night activity..well, 1:15 am activity..

ahhh, right..yeah semesters was on state wasn't it...i live about 4 blocks up from there on state...across from the bank. was pretty free of dbags, but had some fun junkies of dift stripes and nutjobs...our back windows faced shortstop, which occasionally warranted some shouting at drunks..

now, what was the name of the shitty attempt at a club on the west side of college? practically directly across from ruloffs..

yr thinking of the haunt...across the street from the mobile station

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:35 (seventeen years ago)

place by the water was castaways

i played at both..i apologize again for whoever was there

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:35 (seventeen years ago)

ahck...no, i didnt play at the haunt...show was cancelled

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:36 (seventeen years ago)

It was The Haunt, thank you! That would have bothered me all night.

ENBB, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:38 (seventeen years ago)

I think I got hammered at Mcawbers' once

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:39 (seventeen years ago)

i saw merl saunders at castaways, lol hippie. the biggest band that came to town when i was there was rusted root.

i miss dp dough, man, those calzones were awes.

omar little, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:50 (seventeen years ago)

mccawbers also had real cheap "car bombs" on a day in march...i got drunk real early there once on a day in march because of that...

i got fired after being caught having a beer outside at the sports bar on the commons when i should have been working...though i had already closed shop for the day.

i got a coffee and an oatmeal cookie every morning at the bakery on the commons...now also gone

yeah, castaways was serious hippyville...though there were a few "indie" shows and some breaks and drum'n'bass nights too..

oh, man dp dough was kinda awesome...i still get hot truck cravings from time to time

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:53 (seventeen years ago)

ha..i got tossed from the haunt for giving maddog to some townie punks in the parking lot...

man, this has been two days of repressed memories

fitting that ive been listening to huggybear all day

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:54 (seventeen years ago)

the commons was turning into a ghost town when i was there. the bar i went to most was moonshadows, though i really liked the chapterhouse when it wasn't overrun w/dbags.

omar little, Friday, 1 February 2008 20:55 (seventeen years ago)

The first show I ever went to was in some bizarre gym at Ithaca College - Murphy's Law opening for Bosstones. Ha. Chances where given what I spent most of my time doing my freshman year I'd probably been listening to huggybear and drinking MD2020 earlier that day. lol college. x-post.

I'm going to be in the area in a couple weeks. I should in Ithaca for old times sake. Maybe.

ENBB, Friday, 1 February 2008 21:01 (seventeen years ago)

chapterhouse made their own rootbeer...was a goodplace in non-school times...

i had a roommate that worked the door at moonshadows = never ending drink tokens = drank there often... while in school i drank at stellas, as i had long been a regular at the shop and knew owners/workers, but mainly at homes.

when i moved back, we drank at the chanticleer and at the place that was once club europa (cant remember the name at the time). they had a small lounge upstairs with a real good bartender called doc. mostly it was empty, so doc would make us fancy drinks for reasonable prices (often inventing new stuff and testing it on us for free) and give us his good darts for the always empy board...those guys the motherfuckers used to play downstairs all the time.

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 21:04 (seventeen years ago)

Too much coffee. That should have read - I should "stop" in Ithaca. x-post to self.

ENBB, Friday, 1 February 2008 21:05 (seventeen years ago)

ha! i was at that show. friends of mine had put it together so i had dinner with the bands before hand...errr, had shitty pizza...might have been my 1st show there too...unless i saw belly and the catherine wheel at bailly hall before that...but i think the IC show was pretty early in fall, before i knew people and saw plow united/weston/thirsty/kerosene 454/carbondale/ifarm play every week...eek

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 21:08 (seventeen years ago)

what kills me is knowing now that doug yule lives in town.

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 21:09 (seventeen years ago)

ha! i was at that show. friends of mine had put it together so i had dinner with the bands before hand

That's funny. My 17 year old self would have been very jealous. It was very early in the fall - within the first couple weeks of school because I was there with those random people you hang out with our first month or two and then never see again.

That wasn't just my first show in Ithaca, that was my first show EVER. I had the type of strict parents who wouldn't let me out of their site while I was in HS.

ENBB, Friday, 1 February 2008 21:16 (seventeen years ago)

sight. Ok, that's it - I need to go home now.

ENBB, Friday, 1 February 2008 21:21 (seventeen years ago)

my current self is shaking his head at my 18 yr old self hanging out with them...but friends of mine from albany had toured w/murphy's law, so that was not the 1st time i made that mistake...but it was a dude that i played lacrosse with in h.s. that worked on that ic show. that suddenly seems very funny

i was lucky to know some people whod been in ithaca for a bit and was told about stuff and missed out on a lot of the random dudes from yr floor kinda stuff, but i also lived in a special dorm and ended up lifelong friends with a lot of the random people i met in the 1st few weeks...

bb, Friday, 1 February 2008 21:23 (seventeen years ago)

clup europe was hilarious! i was there when it opened and it lasted like 2 months or something, yeah? they were charging a $15 cover and no one went. only time i was there, the cover was down to $5 and it was 11pm on a friday and there were twenty people there, maybe.

omar little, Friday, 1 February 2008 21:38 (seventeen years ago)

El Tomboto, Friday, 29 February 2008 21:57 (seventeen years ago)

that little walk bridge was closed most of my freshman yr which drove me bonkers as it required walking like 10 minutes (up and down a hill) to get to the ag. quad for classes...

there is a colony of beaver that live in that lake...one of them scared the hell out of me early one morning as i was running on the path along side it

bb, Friday, 29 February 2008 21:59 (seventeen years ago)

the bldg just off to the left is the language house...where we got a bunch of tossed out video equipment once...

bb, Friday, 29 February 2008 22:01 (seventeen years ago)

Ithaca seems like a pretty fun small city to live in but it seems like it would get boring post college. Everyone I know there not doing grad school is kind of coasting along.

200!!! thats cheap. my rent was like 350 or so..i had a small room, but a huge living and seperate dining room, walk in pantry, and washer dryer in the kitchen...was also 1 block from the commons

i had random academic gigs then worked at a vintage shop and finally selling really fancy snowcones on the commons (under the table)

the gimme by the creek downtown? across from the hair salon in the crazy blg?

my crazy friend kurt used to live right there. he worked for the vet school. cutting up animals.
