guys i couldn't find the "should i go" thread

anyway: tonight there's a show that MIGHT be worth going to? but i don't actually know.

Yukon -- somethingsomething meets Shellac, from Baltimore (Jess?)
Archaeopteryx -- "Drum. Bass. Noize." From Brooklyn. Figured you jerks either

(a) know them and like them ok
(b) know them and despire them
(c) don't know them at all

whatever. shit's only $5, but i've got other offers.

do it don't do it?

river wolf, Thursday, 21 June 2007 21:32 (eighteen years ago)

i am too lazy to use myspace and also i am broke, so plz refrain from fronting

river wolf, Thursday, 21 June 2007 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

what are the other offers

Mr. Que, Thursday, 21 June 2007 21:35 (eighteen years ago)

yukon is pretty good. kinda math-y hardcore stuff. more hardcore than math. very mid/late 90s. they even look mid/late 90s.

strongohulkington, Thursday, 21 June 2007 21:38 (eighteen years ago)

(1) BBQin'
(2) beers at M___'s house, chillin' with homeys while his lady is gone
(3) biochemistry :D
(4) move stuff to new apt
(5) drinking low grade sake by myself ;___;

river wolf, Thursday, 21 June 2007 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

I'd pick 4, 1, 2 in that order

Mr. Que, Thursday, 21 June 2007 21:40 (eighteen years ago)

Archaeopteryx is friends with AaronHz iirc

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 21 June 2007 21:40 (eighteen years ago)

xp harbl -- yeah, they sound really math-y (i went to myspace). any idea about their live show? bear in mind that there will probably be like 15 ppl there. this is bozeman, after all

river wolf, Thursday, 21 June 2007 21:40 (eighteen years ago)

#1 or #2

bell_labs, Thursday, 21 June 2007 21:43 (eighteen years ago)

last time i saw them they were okay (drummer's a bear) but the sound was fucking awful and you couldn't hear the vocalist at all, so it basically sounded like very early hardcore-era don cab with some dude hoarsely shouting from a few doors down

strongohulkington, Thursday, 21 June 2007 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

h'mmm....

maybe i will go to "support" the scene, at least for an hour

river wolf, Thursday, 21 June 2007 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

Archaeopteryx is friends with AaronHz iirc

latebloomer, Thursday, 21 June 2007 21:51 (eighteen years ago)

correct answer is 2-1-5-4-music described as 'math-y'-3

deeznuts, Thursday, 21 June 2007 21:57 (eighteen years ago)

rrrobyn, Thursday, 21 June 2007 22:50 (eighteen years ago)

nickalicious, Friday, 22 June 2007 15:04 (eighteen years ago)

strongohulkington, Friday, 22 June 2007 15:06 (eighteen years ago)

river wolf, Friday, 22 June 2007 15:58 (eighteen years ago)

#1 was best option :(

deej, Friday, 22 June 2007 16:01 (eighteen years ago)

i'm bbqin' basically all the time these days -- it is summer, and i live in montana! that's all anyone really does! also: tubing + beers + bridge jumping :D

i mean, i bbq'd three times last week alone

river wolf, Friday, 22 June 2007 16:07 (eighteen years ago)

dutch noisers or are you stalking towga?

Edward III, Friday, 22 June 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

rw, you all are on the bubble, miss a few shows and bands might stop coming entirely, so go support mathy hardcore. but bring yr biochem textbook, they like a studious audience.

Edward III, Friday, 22 June 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

i stayed home :-/

but yeah, i think there's like one dude in town who's trying really hard to book interesting and non-jam/bluegrass/bar-band shows, so i'd like to see that continue

river wolf, Friday, 22 June 2007 16:57 (eighteen years ago)

a) the ex
b) dj ayres
c) crazy polish frip party
d) all of the above

did it: saw jandek yesterday. but prob should not have done it. his fretless guitar stuff was good, lyrics not my thing (but i knew this), + there was improv saxaphone guy and harpsicord guy and percussion guy (he was okay, others were ugh) - had to leave after 45 min of what would be 2 hr performance whoa. an experience tho, i guess, y'know, jandek.

but yeah for some reason i put myself on the media list to see ICP orchestra tonight and after last night i'm like why?? i hate most of all this modern jazz stuff!! esp improv jazz with saxaphones!! i think i will not go and not do that to myself

rrrobyn, Monday, 25 June 2007 20:43 (eighteen years ago)

apparently jandek asked for a harpsichordist who could play "long notes" and a saxophonist who could play "bluesy."

also he has apparently been going to suoni shows all week.

s1ocki, Monday, 25 June 2007 20:47 (eighteen years ago)

people left early in our jandek show too. other people fell asleep. losers.

jessie monster, Monday, 25 June 2007 20:54 (eighteen years ago)

yeah i'm sure i saw him around!
i just couldn't really deal with the show :/
(party under the bridge though - awesome. glad i went to that! even though i had to leave b/c i had to finish some work (uh) but i could hear it going until i fell asleep at like 5 am!)

rrrobyn, Monday, 25 June 2007 20:55 (eighteen years ago)

river wolf, Monday, 16 July 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

TRIP

jessie monster, Monday, 16 July 2007 17:00 (eighteen years ago)

h'mmmm....friends are going on a canyoneering/floating trip in Utah desert in about two weeks. 3 days of clambering through slots, followed by four days of doing absolutely nothing while floating down the colorado on canoe trimarans.... ie - beer!

Secretly what I want to do is have friend build me bike and then ride that bike to other friend's wedding in VA.

milo z, Monday, 16 July 2007 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

I have $10k in credit card debt (Apple computers + tuition/books for a couple of semesters). It is entirely too much, but $6k of it is at 6.5% until paid off so I'm not completely screwed.

i am not jess, brah!

but: my friend is learning to make bike frames (he's made....4? so far): steel, lugged, not-fancy tubing, but good enough for the job, forks too. it's up to you to get it painted (i'd probably do it myself). total cost is the price of tubing only, so like 300-400 bucks.

any sudden windfall for me wld go to credit card for sure - boring! lame! responsible! - BUT some of it wld go to saving for awesome things like big travels - so i vote travels.
but y'know, i have no immediate need for rope

rrrobyn, Monday, 16 July 2007 19:22 (eighteen years ago)

I vote travel. I also ended up with some cash after the weekend, I'm deciding between:

a) bike!
b) save for double rent/moving expensive over next couple months :(
