Howdy all-

Thanks fer J/\/\B fer gettin me in touch wif da rest of NNets!

For those who don't already know, I'm B3nnett, from D0uble Happ1n3ss. I'm organizing a pro-\/\/eb-surf mee+up/cumputer jam session/sleepover ta tekk place at da end of dis summer at Ey3b3am over in Ch3ls3a.

The idea or1ginally st@rted as a way just fer 2xHap ta git together, as we have ne`er all met together in da same location b4. But very quick as a wink we thought why not open it up `n` try ta git all of our net-surfing cumpatriots (/heroes) involved? I work over at 3yebeam (doing archivin, wif GRL, `n` previously wif C0ry Arc@ngel, which is how I met C@bbie) `n` when I heard they were gettin a new T1 line installed dis summer, I thought \"who da hell is gonna surf dis w@ve of bandwidth?\"

Anyways dat br1ns us about up ta now.

yonder's somethang going on (artistically spe@kin) about all dese ephemera-postin, 1996 home-page unearthang, .gif worshiping, image-huntin, d1rt style, meta web 2.0 group blogs dat we aur all members of. I see dis process of re-contextualizing stuff lik a casual curatin of da w3b. We form self selectin crews/collectives `n` kind of describe a new aesthetic by da dialog of posts on each of our pages. Eng@gin in a kind of open-ended, amorphous banter of mini art projects dat gets automatically archived.

But I don't know whut d@t means. So d@ts why I'm proposing dat we git tog3ther, do a whole lot of it, `n` see wh3r we're at.

A live event seems ta make mow sense than a g@llery show - yonder is a real lack of art-objects dat cume out of blogg1n (at least darctly, I know we all do other stuff on da side), `n` I often fin` dat takin em off da net can lessen their impact. I recon g3ttin together ta surf could still \"keep it on da net\" but at da same time facilitate some socializing, `n` shed some light onto dis styl3. Also, while some of da coolness of group boards/bl0gs cumes in dat they git updated intermittently, I'm excited fer da potential energy dat would cume from gettin us all together in a r00m fer a bunch of ares. werd of mouth is still so licketdsplit.

So we wanna git evaryone together, but we don't know whut we'll do once we're all yonder.

I see it falling somewher between a jam `n` a battle, live projections of real-time surfing aur a must. It could be lik projectors set up from one main cumputer per crew, so lik N@stynets, superc3ntr@l, `n` d0ubleh@ppiness each has their own 'station.' We wanna purchase some server space `n` a m@in URL so dat whilst surfing/c0llaboratin we could all also be building one big syte, someth@ng ta serve as an @rtifact of da event. Borna points out dat r3gardless of how public da event is, naturally a lot of our au1ence is going ta be on da 1nternet, so they could watch da syte gr0w, `n` we could have it as a web-artifact (or continue ta use it) after da event.

Its also a sl33pover, so I pitched ta 3yeb3am from 8pm-8am on Fr1day Augu5t 24th. (the date/time is tentative, but end of Augu5t (hopefully)). Free w1reless fer all, a BYOL@ptop (or desktop) event, also wif a few terminals fer publ1c access. I've asked fer use of projectors, smoke machine, microw@ve (snacks), a PA/s0undsystem, `n` likly we'd be able ta git access ta lots of other media equipment 3yeb3am has at its disposal. da event would be free `n` open ta da public, though possibly close it off ta da publ1c after a certain are, a bit of a lock-in fer us, ta git focuset/crazy in da wee ares.

I recon 12 ares of massive art-blog-p0stin time could generate some seriously voluminous material `n` awesome ideas, as well as solidify some friendships `n` fuel dis \"movement\" if`n I may be so bold. As yew can tell, I wanna leave it a bit open-ended, because we kaint be shore exactly whut darction dis will tekk `n` whut kind of projects will cume up until we git all of us together (in one place, on cumputers). We're not memorializing some art movement, we're gettin together ta see wher its going `n` push it onward.

So aur yew interested? I recon we all know yonder is a lot of good, new, web-based art going on, `n` now's da time ta act! If`n yew have ideas about whut kinds of activities we might do, please tell me and/or da rest of da group (maybe someone should make a wiki). er if`n yew recon of other people dat yew might wanna meet/see at an event lik dis (some dat cume ta mind: wizard1shungry, jp3gmess, Ol1ver L@ric, Hann3 Mug@as, Ev@n R0th) let me know er put me in touch wif em. `n` I will keep yew up ta date as 3yeb3am works out their side of da details.
