i've never made my own dumplings! so i'm inclined to say shop. but i would gladly eat others' homemade dumplings too.

maybe vanessa's? prices are a dollar more than the chinatown shops but there are plenty of tables, plus they have those amazing sesame pancake sandwiches and more varieties of dumplings.

i used to have picnics with friends in high school -- we called it SPREAD CLUB -- which involved everyone bringing varieties of fresh breads and spreadable foodstuffs to share (hummus, cheese, jellies, mustards, butter, etc etc) and making lots and lots of small tasty sandwiches.

i think dumpling party could be a dumpling & sauces variation on this idea.

I like Vanessa's a whole lot. Don't ever order lunchtime delivery from them though. I did this with some people from the office and it took over two hours for the food to get here. But yeah their sesame pancake sandwiches are the shit.

how do i shot dumplings for lunch in midtown in a few hours?

an off-peak visit to vanessa's is a good idea. at least you know that your food is fresh, but damn. the wait is sometimes ridiculous.

i can make dumprings but I make the chinese ones with the really thick skin. also, I don't like to touch raw meat with my hands so I would only make veggie dumprings. But if we were to ever have a dumrping party I can make the dough and fold them all.

the best i've had were in chatauqua, ny. the wings we had at the smoke joint in ft. greene were pretty good, but everything else was kind of crappy and expensive so i'm not running back there.

i prefer thicker skinned dumplings, actually. i think the most expensive/disappointing dumplings i've had were at rickshaw. meh.

one of my friends in high school had a vacation house out there (well, her parents did). i went a few times off-season, and on the way in we'd stop at a totally random-seeming pizzeria that made incredible wings.

was it a brigadoon type scenario where it'd only appear a couple of times a century and always off-season?

l, i bet chatauqua would be much better off season! i onyl went there to visit friends doing the summer music festival and it was rly creepy! i had to sneak OUT when i left the next day cause my visitor's pass was only good for like 8 hrs or something.

t, i think there are decent dumpling options near rock ctr if you do delivery. joe's shanghai has a branch up there, for instance, and no matter how touristy/overhyped that place is you can't diss the dumplings. also, wu liang ye has a midtown branch and i think evergreen shanghai does as well.
