Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 27 July 2007 15:50 (eighteen years ago)

audacity and some external effects/soundboard number
layering of loops, recordings of external synth

sexyDancer, Friday, 27 July 2007 15:59 (eighteen years ago)

That is really surprising! Does he use that tape head / record needle tool or just mainly enveloping mixing loops and stuff?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 27 July 2007 16:06 (eighteen years ago)

Totally expected it to be some midi sequencing / performance thing

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 27 July 2007 16:07 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not really sure, cuz I don't don't get up his ass about it.
but it's so much easier to manipulate recordings than to manipulate midi

sexyDancer, Friday, 27 July 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah def. def. def. -- Just had a little chat with the dude wrt to this topic.

sexyDancer made fun of me for asking about a "song"

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 27 July 2007 19:09 (eighteen years ago)

i have only been sampling on audacity, and from remastered reissues ripped lossless too, so the sound quality jump for me is startling. i will check out that feature jon. i only first learned the program two nights before monkeytown!
i have time though.
all the ideas from my old setup (MD loops, some live gtr and bass incl., and keybs) have been 'lain down' so to speak.
the first any of this new action could appear, apart from streams, is like 2009.
this is def part of being in a band, thinking two years in advance...

noizez duk, Friday, 27 July 2007 19:31 (eighteen years ago)

It'll be cool to hear some proper "songs" done with this.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 27 July 2007 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

uh I think I lied and its some other shit free editor that has a "tape head" tool :(

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 27 July 2007 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

this is driving me nuts because i loved this editor. it was really good for cutting up samples and loops or seeking around it huge mp3s

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 27 July 2007 19:48 (eighteen years ago)

you could always sample this:
http://g-ec2.images-amazon.com/images/I/51SJP9ZDZ9L._AA280_.jpg
or mumble "wugga wugga" into vocoder

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Friday, 27 July 2007 19:56 (eighteen years ago)

For DJing purposes, Scrubby really comes into his own. Sure, you can scrub around in all your favourite samples and loops. You can even scrub on live input: plug a microphone in, hit record and scrub on a vocalist's words as they are being recorded.

You have 500 dollars to spend on a foot controller and you don't have one Juno, a Prophet, an old Arp, nothing cool!

dan selzer, Friday, 16 November 2007 20:37 (eighteen years ago)

that is a stupid controller but I'd like some kind of midi expression pedal and like some stuff for running macros

that's awesome but the pedals are so close together! i would have to be sitting down to use

bell_labs, Friday, 16 November 2007 21:09 (eighteen years ago)

you'd have to be sitting down anyway, otherwise you'd crush the poor thing!

I played with a new Dave Smith Prophet 08 while in Montreal. BEST. SYNTHESIZER. EVER.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 13 December 2007 19:44 (seventeen years ago)

that pitch shifter pedal is so useful

chaki, Thursday, 13 December 2007 19:46 (seventeen years ago)

J0n uses MIDI to sync rig
Sexy uses MIDI, DIN SYNC, and trigger pulses to sync rig
N4th4n uses MIDI to send sequences to his MOOG.
J0n and I have used MIDI to sync our respective rigs, but only a few times. It gets tricky...

sexyDancer, Thursday, 13 December 2007 19:51 (seventeen years ago)

so there's no overall midi clocks... hmm that might be actually more useful for quantizing

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 13 December 2007 19:53 (seventeen years ago)

clock select

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 13 December 2007 19:53 (seventeen years ago)

well, each rig might have several sonic elements in sync, but usually one person is holding down the ryhthm, while others are playing live on top.

sexyDancer, Thursday, 13 December 2007 20:01 (seventeen years ago)

That makes things a lot more simple logistically.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 13 December 2007 20:07 (seventeen years ago)

dude more than one midi clock = dnw

bell_labs, Thursday, 13 December 2007 20:09 (seventeen years ago)

On the same midi chain, yeah

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 13 December 2007 20:10 (seventeen years ago)

one sequencer to rule them all dudes. fuck sync in the butt

El Tomboto, Thursday, 13 December 2007 20:10 (seventeen years ago)

But there are things you can do with mixed syncs you can't do with straight MIDI. Things no one else does. THINGS ONLY 3XC3PT3R DOES.

sexyDancer, Thursday, 13 December 2007 20:14 (seventeen years ago)

and autechre

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 13 December 2007 20:26 (seventeen years ago)

I am really into my midi tempo sync patch for "swing time" when using it with quantized / sequenced fx

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Thursday, 13 December 2007 20:27 (seventeen years ago)

sync this ya fucks
http://www.minet.jp/soundtoys/_i/gear_closet/E1010.jpg

El Tomboto, Thursday, 13 December 2007 20:27 (seventeen years ago)

shouldn't be a problem. I have a box that converts analog to MIDI clock.

sexyDancer, Thursday, 13 December 2007 20:47 (seventeen years ago)

the other day I had Digital Performer slaved to my MPC slaved to a Sequential Circuits Drumtrax. I liked the idea of an ancient drum machine with wooden panels and celtic caligraphy controlling fancy new and bigger toys.

dan selzer, Thursday, 13 December 2007 20:48 (seventeen years ago)

i discovered WAVES fx on my roommates computer tho (on soundforge too, which my current hero --as well as a lot of peoples-- mr. burial uses) and have been in love. just rerunning loops thru that, then back to mine.
trying to learn how to mix and master a little bit before i present them.
i will probably run synth out from computer too if i ever get it to work.
chops is getting just as good a feel for his CZ as i ever had, based on NYU esp., and he is even advancing his with patches from his computer and shit. maybe we can join up on that if don't get into something else.
or even if i do.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 18:55 (seventeen years ago)

I have a Radel tabla-drum-machine from India but it lacks a gender switcher. It's unisex. The cool part is that it's not playing tabla samples; it's all synth based and it sounds sweet.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 20:51 (seventeen years ago)

Drew, which one? I got the Digi-100 which I'm guessing is like 12 bit samples pitched to the tuning? Also is the TR 727 cool or not cool

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 20:52 (seventeen years ago)

Also the Digi 100 has some kind of 1/8" plug for sync...

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 20:52 (seventeen years ago)

the tr 727 is garrrrrrrbaaaaaaaaage

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 04:30 (seventeen years ago)

the tr 505 is the coolest one for noise because it can be POWERED BY BATTERIES and drive MIDI

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 04:31 (seventeen years ago)

I heard some people like to use the 727 for "tribal" flavors

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 04:33 (seventeen years ago)

http://www.notbreathing.com/img/mc202.jpg

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 04:34 (seventeen years ago)

I wouldn't waste the money on a 707 or a 727 tbh

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 04:37 (seventeen years ago)

I wouldn't either!

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 04:58 (seventeen years ago)

if it's cheap enough, the 707 is nice for low-fi classic chicago house sounds, useful for din-sync midi>to other earlier roland machines, and has individual outs and volume control unlike many other drum machines you may find cheap, so it can be versatile.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 05:43 (seventeen years ago)

Prokchop uses a 707.
that sh-202 above is sweet. el cheepo (usu $500) battery-powered analog synth disguised as sequencer.
