Record stores in NYC

I'm in Brooklyn for two weeks, and I would like to find some good record stores where I can buy new vinyl. I know Other Music and Generation Records. Any other recommendation would be very appreciated.

Also if anyone has a ticket for Matmos on Friday or Saturday that they want to get rid of then I'd be happy to help.

I work at Academy Annex in Williamsburg; 96 North 6th Street. Huge selection of used vinyl, good selection of new & reissue vinyl. We don't keep up to date very well with new releases though, but we do have sections for contemporary metal, punk and underground sounds.

also check out Eat Records in Greenpoint and Marquise Dancehall on Grand Street between Havemeyer and Roebling.

Man, I haven't been up to Eat in a while.

one year passes...

does anyone know anywhere for cheap stereo equipment in nyc/jersey? i've moved here for a year without a record player and am looking for something, a dansette, speakers, tape decks etc.

also: even if there wasn't anything i wanted, the novelty of the grenwich village record store that's open til three am BLEW MY MIND.

There was a great place on Route 1 in Jersey near New Brunswick. That's probably too far for you though.

mm, thank you, i'll investigate. for the heavier stuff i'll probably look locally, but anywhere on the subway/path is good. the turntable's probably the hard part. i'm gonna hassle you all about record stores, too. i liked the one on bedford in williamsburgh.

fucked if I can remember the name though. And have no idea if it's even still there, for that matter. It's been longer than I realized since I've lived down there.

Hey Ian, is there any possibility that you guys could hold a record today or even ship one that I saw last night?
I may have even asked you if you knew anything about the Chills. It was a Chills record that went in the new arrivals last night at about 7:00pm

Prob good idea to ask in I Love Vinyl too! - 'records we are desperately seeking' thread

Thanks! I actually got a hold of Ian at the store via phone, so it worked out. There are some records I am desperately seeking that have not seen in person anywhere, so thanks for reminding me I'll probably go post them too.

Sounds was pretty dire even 5-6 years ago. My mom emailed me the nyt obituary on Rockit Scientist. good riddance.
